The invention of gods was the first science. It's that simple.
Gods, demons, spirits, fairies, magic, alchemy, etc... all of these things were man's earliest theories of how and why the world does what it does. Over the years, through trial and error, we've discovered that these old theories are not true. But we still have a few clinging.
For example, there are plenty of people in this world who still believe in alchemy, and magic, and fairies, etc.
Most people laugh at them for these beliefs. I know I do. But these beliefs are no less viable than a belief in any god you want to name. It's all the same thing. It's people clinging to something that they WANT to believe, even though, in the back of their minds, they know it's all crap.
In this modern day, a few of these beliefs have risen to the top, mainly because ancient warlords managed to force those beliefs on the people they conquered. And that's the only reason those beliefs still survive today. It's become ingrained in a large portion of our population. (Hello Islam and Christianity...)
But just because a bunch of people have been too intellectually lazy to really test the validity of these societal norms, doesn't mean they have any merit whatsoever.
And as far as I'm concerned, people of "faith" simply embarrass me. I'm embarrassed for them, and their lack of understanding. The shameful thing is, though... at least in the US, I'M the minority... Now THAT is embarrassing for all of us...

Science is not separate from God. It helps us to understand the universe. Science is how we explain what we know about the universe. Just because it has a name with a connotation of being unconnected from God, doesn't mean it is. God has always been there.
There is a difference between scientific fact and scientific opinion. Fact is something to the effect of man has 206 bones. Opinion is history of man began in the year 1,524,124 B.C. (Before Christ!) We really have no way to prove when man first existed on Earth unless we go back in time and check, and that's beside the fact that time is relative anyway.
What I'm saying is that science is connected to God, so the opinion that God was invented by man is just that, an opinion, and not scientific fact.

For them to have invented the concept , made the possibility of creating God , a Reality.
The Moment One brings Forth an Idea, it has become manifested. For it is Spoken aloud. One cannot bring it back into there own mouth.
Those whom liked the idea , would build on it, and build Life. While those whom did not, could not stop it.
Like a Baby being born.
If a couple discusses the idea of having a baby, the idea, is brought forth, wether they have one afterwards or not, will not stop a baby from being born. A baby will be born anyhow, wether by them or another.

Early man created gods to explain what he didn't understand about nature.
Now that we understand more, our need for gods is lessened. In the 18th century this idea was put forward as "the God of gaps" theory. Basically, whatever couldn't be explained by current scientific knowledge was written off as God's will. Fortunately, this didn't stop people from studying and researching.

actually the pre-scientific people were the ones who invented the concept of god. they realised that the forces of nature were stronger than human strength, and sought to worship it in order to tame it. remember east indians, and the west indians, and the paleolithic and neolithic men and the religion of animisms that Abraham and Moses and Christ wanted to replace with the concept of One true God??!!!

Of course it was invented. There are very good reasons for early humans to invent a god or gods. Gods can be used to explain things one does not understand. Gods can be used to control populations. Gods can be used to attain power and wealth. There are tons of reasons for inventing gods...

Exactly, man would have invented something supernatural to explain forces he did not understand, simple things like rain, lightning, thunder, drought, stars, moon, eclipses, the list goes on and on.
It would be a logical progression and that's what really did happen.

Yes. Without knowledge, they could not have made it past the 'safety' step of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. So they basically made something up to fill in the gaps, based on abnormal neural states (NDE's, OBE's, hallucinations).
One might say it is even simpler than that. Since NDE's, OBE's and hallucinations are known to be neurological conditions, and they wouldn't have had that knowledge, they'd take NDE's, OBE's, and hallucinations as they are, not as simple neurological concepts.

The first sign a species is becoming sentient is when they have evolved to the point where they can abstract enough to invent a god. The first sign a species is achieving sentient maturity is when they get rid of their gods.

If you look at the history of religions you can see how the concept has evolved over time. It is quite fascinating. Each religion taking something from the old religion and adding new and exciting elements.
