ok you can use gauze and soak it in alittle bit of warm water. Just rub the fronts of all the teeth. Especially the back molars. Also, there is a food that you vet can give you that's called T/D. It's made by Science Diet. or just ask him for a food that helps with tarter. Dry food is better for your dog because when your dog chews the food rubs against the tarter and helps to rub some off. Wet food sticks to the teeth causing tarter build up. Also, i recommend you get the dogs teeth cleaned before you start any form of brushing. This removes the plaque and when you start brushing will help to prevent it. If you start now you may not remove enough of the tarter and you will still need the cleaning. Ask your vet for an estimate of the surgery. Goodluck!
you can also try alittle hydrogen peroxide or baking soda (1tsp) mixed with about 3 cups of water. Too high of a concentration of hydroperoxide will cause your dog to vomit. This helps to make her breath smell alittle better.
p.p.s DO NOT GIVE YOUR DOG RAWHIDE....unless you want to spend 3,000$ to get it out of her intestines. rawhide is very dangerous for dogs if you do not watch them until they are done. If you dog swallows a large enough piece it can get lodged in the intestines and cause and obstruction, which is not good for your dog. Stick with nylabones or milkbones. Nothing like pig ears, feet, noses, or rawhides. Just trust me on this one!

Having a healthy diet is important because it helps to determine how fast plaque will form.
Rawhide and bone chewing helps to keep dog's teeth clean as do some toys like ratty rop pulls. I've heard that greenies can upset many dog's digestion, but it is supposed to help with teeth cleaning.
As for regular brushing, you should always use doggie toothpaste (the human kind is not good for them) and a brushing implement. I use an inexpensive electric toothbrush on my dog's teeth. the spinning action does a nice job on his teeth. Many dogs will try to bite at the brushing implement, but it is more difficult to bite with the head rotating.

Your vet should have a kit complete with a toothbrush and toothpaste in flavors like liver and beef. (Yum, I know). Petco or another pet shop should have them too.
Dogs and cats should have yearly checkups during which their teeth will be checked. Usually they need dental cleaning which is done by the vet, to get off the plaque. Dental problem, besides abcesses and toothaches can also lead to other problems such as problems of the heart and other infections. Be sure to have their teeth checked once a year.

You can buy dog toothpaste, in mint, poultry and peanut butter flavor. I'm sure there are more. But what ever you do do not use human toothpaste as that will upset her stomach and make her sick. You could also take you dog to a vet every year or so to get her a cleaning and then brush her teeth once a week or so.

I do use a people (kid's) toothbrush on my dog, but I opt for the toothpaste specially formulated for dogs. While regular brushing will improve your dogs oral health and help to keep his breath less :doggie: smelling, he may need a professional cleaning first to check for decaying teeth, abscesses and gum disease. Once you've had that done and then keep up with regular brushing at home, you should notice a much fresher smelling breath on your dog.

At any pet store they'll sell toothpaste and a "dog brush", but a human toothbrush works just as well. If you don't have time to do it regularly, and if your dog has a calm temperment, you can even use a cheap electric toothbrush, which will be even more effective at getting the plaque off.

They make special toothbrushes and toothpaste for dogs. Hartz makes a beef flavored toothpaste. Don't use 'Greenies' or anything like that...I saw a news report that said that after a while they can cause a blockage in the dogs intestines. Check your local pet store they should have something.

you can either mix a bit of baking soda with a little salt and water. You can use either a doggy toothbrush or your finger wrapped in gauze to apply it..or..go to PetSmart or a local petstore and get a product like Pedigree Dentabones..so..you dont hafta deal with the mess..or do the work..
