Ok I'm unfamiliar with the scales used in doctor's offices, I'm using one at the gym and I don't quite know how it works. I know you have to set the bottom to increments of fifty, but when sliding the top do you want the bar to hover or get it to the point where it rest down far enough that it just touches the metal holder thing? Sorry if this is confusing.

The goal is to get the bar to hover. Then where the top slider is your weight plus the number from the lower (50 lbs) slider.

If the pointer isn't floating before you get on it, it might not be set correctly, usually it is just off a little. You might be able to get someone who works at the gym to fix it (if you are lucky)

Set the bottom weight to the appropriate increment (i.e. at 100 if you weigh between 100-149). The bar from the top weight should hover around the middle of the hole. This will give your your weight. If it hits the bottom, you have gone too far.

Put the bottom bar closest to your weight (such as 100 lbs., if you think you weight 120), then slide the upper bar til it hovers half-way between the upper and lower edges of the "holder thing"; it should be right in the middle. That's your weight, but you can deduct for heavy clothing, like jackets, shoes, boots, etc.

First you set it to zero always. Then slide the bottom one up till it balances in the middle. Then set your top scale till it also balances. For example if you know you are 120. Set the bottom to 100 wait till it balances or stops moving then set your 20 and wait till it balances. Hope this helps!
