In almost all cases a pound, (known as an avoirdupois pound) weighs 16 oz. However, an apothecary pound weighs .823 as much as an avoirdupois pound, or about 13.168 oz. There are also some instances where a pound weighs 12 ounces. If all this is confusing, I'd go with the 16 ounce pound.
