Not true at all. An old wives tale I found this on medicinenet.
:
Whatever you do, don't go out and adopt a Chihuahua to cure your asthma, says Christopher Bates, MD, assistant professor of medicine at National Jewish Medical Center in Denver, Colo. It's not that they are any more likely than other pets to cause asthma, but they certainly don't prevent it as common folklore suggests, he says. "Some cultures believe Chihuahuas take your asthma away from you and that's not true," he says.
There is some evidence that if you're having an asthma attack and you can't get to yourprescribed medicine, two to four cups of black coffee can help, he says. "Coffee contains a substance related to an asthma drug called theophylline," he says. "But a recent study showed that this really made no difference in terms of emergency room visits," he adds.
"Asthma can be aggravated by cold dry air and the only tried and true home remedy is boiling a kettle of hot water on stove and putting a towel over your head and inhaling the steam because the warm humidified air is good for asthmatic lungs," he says. If you have asthma, make sure your medications are with you at all times and if you suspect that you have asthma, see a doctor to get the proper diagnosis and treatment, he says.

NO dog can rid you of asthma. I do know that if a baby or very young child has asthma, chances are they outgrow it as they get older. So, by the time a child is pre teen, the asthma could be gone.
At the same time an adult can develop asthma that has never had it before.

I had both asthma and a chihuahua growing up, so my answer would be, No, a chihuahua can't get rid of asthma. I did finally outgrow the asthma, thankfully, but it had nothing to do with the dog.

This has been debated over the years. There are actually doctors who still swear by this. I am sure they are older doctors not up to date on things. Just this past weekend I sold a chihuahua pup to a couple with a child with asthma. The doctor had told them to get a chihuahua.

chihuahuas aren't heavy shedders, but they do shed just a little. i believe they're considered hypoallergenic (which means they shed a little or hardly at all and therefore don't contribute to allergies), so your asthma may get better with a chihuahua as opposed to having a big dog that sheds a lot. but if you don't have a dog at all, your asthma will probably be just as good if you don't have a chihuahua.
