Yes! I was overdue, and my doctor insisted that I was fine. I was huge and miserable. The dr. told me not to worry, that the baby was small, and could use a few more days of being inside me. He stripped my membranes so I wouldn't go into labor right away, and after that I was in labor for 2 days straight. I don't know why he wouldn't just induce me because I had been dilated at 4 cm for over a month already! I went to the hospital at 7 cm, and they told me to go home because my contractions were irregular! By the time I went back to the hospital, I was 10 cm dilated, and in full labor, and had to be brought to the hospital by ambulance. When the doctor checked me, he said the baby's head was turned the wrong way, and that he was stuck in my tailbone. I started to push, and my dr. continued to let me do so for the next 6 hours! He vaccuumed the baby's head, which left a HUGE welt on my son's head and made me angry. After 6 hours of pushing, and no baby, he finally came in and said I needed an emergency c-section. When they started the operation, the baby was so stuck in my canal that they had to shove a fist up my you know what to get the baby back into my stomach. That hurt! When he was born, he weighed 9 lbs. 1 oz.! That was NO small baby. My dr. was obviously retarded, and doesn't know how to measure correctly. Ever since then, I've had problems with my incision, and health due to the trauma that labor caused. I have waited 6 years to consider having another child because I cannot physically go through what I went through with my son. I'm afraid of having the same thing happen. I'm so sad that in a country with so many resources, that these kind of things still happen to women.

This is long! There was a lot that was wrong with my first birth. I had been told I was having a girl, first of all, and that was wrong. I'm not faulting that, but the way they told me. I went in a week after my due date with absolutely nothing happening, but I had developed pre-eclampsia. They decided to induce me, but the meds they had me on to try to control the pre-e, magnesium, was counteracting the pitocin, so nothing was happening. I coudln't get up and walk because of the magnesium, and my back was killing me from being on bedrest for the last week to control my blood pressure. I never even started feeling the contractions that's how useless the pit. was. They inserted the catheter wrong, and it was leaking blood into the urine collection bag, was painful, and was leaking urine all over the bed. They just left me there, didn't change the sheets. After about two hours the dr. came in and asked me if I would have a c-section because there were 7 other women having babies that night and, well, it would save him time if I would have a section! I told him absolutely not. 12 hours later, still no dilation, no contractions, and bp was going up, I had to concede to a section or risk a serious seizure. The anesthesiologist inserted the needle for the epidural for the section, and I can tell by the way it felt he really didn't put it in all the way. They asked me three seconds later if I was numb, I wasn't, so they said I had to be put to sleep. I found out with my second at a different hospital and a different doc that it can take some people up to 10 min. for it to work, so I know the first doc was lying. I was becoming a problem for him, so he just put me under. They left my husband standing in the labor room dressed in scrubs, never came and told him I had to be put under. When they woke me up, I was p***ed! I had wanted a natural birth, didn't get one. Wanted to see my baby being delivered with my hubby there, didn't get that. Then they asked what I was naming the baby, and I gave them the girl's name. The idiot nurse said, 'Oh, but you had a boy!', very rudely. I flew off the handle and shouted the boy's name we had chosen, which really made it look like I didn't want a boy, which wasn't true. I was just so ticked off at all that had happened. We reported all of this to the patient's advocate, and the rest of the stay was wonderful because I had filed a complaint. Will never go there again. My second was almost perfect except for the repeat c-section. My next will be a homebirth, I'm through with hospitals unless it's an emergency.

I had placenta previa and was told if I had any bleeding to go straight to the hospital, as this would probably mean the placenta was tearing away which could lead to the baby not getting oxygen and an emergency C-section would be done. I woke up really early at 36 weeks, and was bleeding bad. I called the doctor on call who said to go straight to the emergency room, since it was before the hospital was open, and she'd be in L&D waiting for me. I got to the ER in less than 10 minutes, but was not taken up to L&D for 20 minutes because they wanted me to fill out all this paperwork even though I had pre-registered. I kept telling them the doc was ready for me and prepared to do a C-section but they didn't listen I was lucky that the bleeding ended up not being from the previa, and so everything was okay, but if it had been the baby would have died in that 20 minutes. I was so mad, and I still get pissed thinking about it.

I am sorry to hear all these bad tlaes. I would share mine, but it gets me riled and would take far too much space and time! I'll be very brief...mine started with an a$$ of a midwife who did not listen when I spotted through and entire pregnancy that ended 4 weeks early. I was 7 mnths out of that pregnancy when SURPRISE....I was pregnant again. Apparently she didn't agree and treated me badly. Aside from totally blowing off the continuing spotting, she had the nerve to ask me what I was putting up *there*. This pregnancy ended with my daughter being born at 25 weeks gestation. She was small for her gestation and they decided she was not as far along as I KNOW she was and chose to let her lay in my arms for about an hour trying to breath and die there. Yes....bad experience. This midwife needs to stick to delivering the mail. Babies aren't her thing.
I now have a doctor who take s the time to listen to my concerns, no matter how silly, and even though this is my 9th pregnancy, including 3 miscarriages and the one loss after live birth, he still treats me politely and with concern. I appreciate him and am sure this time will be...um...pleasant?? LOL!!! Well, as pleasant as delivering a baby can be anyway!! LOL!!!

I had ta have a emergency c-section at 23 weeks because I was preclamsia so when the anesthesiologist came to do a epidural something didn't feel right but I was still able to get numb so after 3 hours and when it was all over with I started having pain in my back and informed the nurse so they just kept me medicated all while I was there when I got home the pain in my back wouldn't stop and I start experiencing bad headaches so i went to the emergency room they did test and found out there was air in my back due to the epidural and that was causing the headaches so I had to have another surgery to let the air out

Wow. I know that my story is not nearly ar horrible as your or a lot of the ones I read here, but it feels good to vent, so here goes. It was my first child, so I had really no idea what to expect, (as if we ever do). I had taken Lamaz class, watched the video, and listened attentively to my doctor's advice which was when the contractions have been 4 minutes apart for 2 hours, go the the hospital, if your water breaks, go the hospital immediately - even if it is just a trickle, not a gush.
6 pm Saturday - water breaks - VERY slight trickle. I go to the hospital. The intern on duty does three tests to see if my water really broke or if I am just incontenant. 2 tests come back inconclusive. His school books had told him that if it was amniotic fluid, he would see fluid pooling on examination. Did I mention it was a VERY slight trickle. It would take a long time with me lying on my back to make a pool. He concluded it was urine. It did not smell like urine. I did not feel a need to urinate. But lacking experience, he concluded it was urine. The entire time I was at the hospital (1 1/2 hours) they had the belt on me to measure my contractions. Though I could not feel any contractions yet, they were 5 minutes apart steadily the whole time. He also measured and I was dialated to 7. He told me to keep my OB appointment the following Tuesday and released me. I was actually glad to leave as we had been busy all day and I had not eaten in hours. I was starving. So we left and went out for Chinese.
8 pm - Half way through dinner I start feeling the contractions - 5 minutes apart and steady. I keep track waiting for 4 minutes apart for 2 hours. We finish eating, go home, recheck my bag that I have packed, and wait.
10:30pm - contractions 4 minutes apart
10:45pm - contractions still 4 minutes apart - Chinese dinner upchucked in the kitchen sink.
11:00pm - contractions 3 minutes apart - must be a fluke, I think - wait for a couple more and keep timing. Three more contractions, still 3 minutes apart. Uh-oh. Throwing up again.
11: 30pm In the car in route to hospital.
11:50pm - We arrive at the hospital. Contractions are now 50 seconds apart. They rush me to a room and measure - dialated to 8 1/4. They told me that if I felt like pushing, I could not have my epidural, then asked if I felt like pushing. "NO!" I screamed, then mumbled to myself "not without my epidural." I have an aversion to pain. The nurse said they would be right back with it.
12:45 am Sunday- An hour later, they return with a gurney to take me to anesthesia. Yes, you can actually hold the baby in for an hour, but it is very painful.
1:05 am - Not quite numb yet. Doctor is finally there and tells me to push anyway as the baby is crowning.
1:10 am - Epidural kicks in - contractions slow to every 20 mins. Nurse injects Petosin (sp?) into iv bag.
1:15 am - It should take 20 - 30 minutes to induce contractions.
1:25 am - next contraction - daughter born.
Moral - don't take the advice of experts for granted. Listen to your own gut instinct and what your body tells you. You know more than you give yourself credit for.
2nd moral - Never say, "It would be really nice to have a 5 1/2 hour labor." You might get what you ask for.

After I was my second child, I had a spinal tap. The hospital knew I had it and sent me home anyway. Then I had to drag myself back to the ER, leaving my husband, 2 1/2 year old and 5 day old, to have it fixed.
I also had to pay to have it fixed.

o k here goes. i got my period and after 3 weeks of it it did not stop. i went to my doctor and he took a sample of blood just to check my blood count. 3 more weeks later i was in again because it still had not stopped. for the next 3 months he had me in and out everyweek taking blood samples and giving me all types of medicine to help it stop. (provera, birth control, etc) i kept telling him that my blood count had to be low because i felt dizzy, nasaus, tired, faint and i knew my iron had to be low too. he checked all the results of blood work and kept telling me weekly that it would stop on its own and that all my levels were fine. i took a medical leave from work and one day went in to turn some paper work in when i woke up with emt's standing over me. they took me to the er and the doctor in er could not beleive i had been bleeding for over 4 months heavily. he asked what my doctor said and i told him. he (the er doc) ordered tests and when the tests came back an hour later he came to my room running and told me "did you know your blood count is 2!? i said according to my doctor I was fine. he said a normal person walking around has a blood count of 12-14. a blood count of 2 means you are almost dead. he immediately had me prepared for a blood transfusion which turned into 4 transfusions. through my own investigating and reviewal of my doctor's paperwork-which clearly showed my levels steadily dropping- I had a meeting with him schedualed, which he conveinently canceled, but i met with his associate. when i asked his associate why i was not told that my blood count was getting so low and why an emergency DNC was not performed, this B I T C H, for lack of a better word, said to me"we have had other patients similar to your statute who were fine. long story short i hired a lawyer, won my case and received a substantial settlement.
