This is the best part (especially MY homemade bread) to use to make "toad in the hole" where you cut out a circle, butter up the bread, put it in a fry pan and break an egg into the middle. Especially yummy with a slice of cheese melted on top!

I LOVE homemade bread (a little too much - lol) and some store-bought breads are good too - and getting better and better - but I don't like the heels off of store-bought bread no. And I don't like the pre-frozen bread dough bread either - I don't exactly consider that stuff "Home-made".

That is funny because I don't eat the hills of the store bought bread, I feed that part to my dog, BUT I love the hill of my homemade bread but only if it is right out of the oven and still warm... I had never really thought about that before..

I don't eat them, but I save them to make bread crumbs and put them in the freezer for future use. They make better bread crumbs than that stuff you buy in a container at the store.

I love the heels, it has a good texture.

But I wait until they are last, because it keeps the bread in between from drying out as fast--I think of them as endcaps.
