Did you start back up after the baby was born, or after you finished nursing? Do you feel guilty if you did?

I started back up. I do feel guilty but I'm glad I don't smoke around my children. I really wish I could quit and I know if I really wanted to I would but it seems it's just a big mind over matter game--it's a really tough addiction!

Just because a parent smokes does not make them a bad parent. My mother smoked--it didn't influence me but did give me an excuse when I started--"Well, mom does it." My sister on the other hand hates smoking and I'm quite certain she will never smoke. It does have it's influences but it truly is a crazy addiction. It's easier for some to quit and harder for others. Like I said before it's all about mind games.

I quit smoking about 3 years ago. That was long before I even became pregnant. I think what helped me the most is not being in an environment of other smokers. I'm pregnant right now and I think that if I were still smoking, quitting would be the hardest thing ever. You just have to think about your health as well as your baby's. Smoking is such a hard habit to break. I find it odd that when expectant mothers quit while pregnant and start back right after. I guess the craving just sticks to your head and you want it more the minute you know it will no longer harm the baby. Really, you have look at the long run and know that it will harm the baby one way or another because you're harming yourself.

I smoked until the day the Doctor said I was pregnant, I quit that same day on all 4 pregnancies. I always started back after 3 or 4 months after their birth. Do I feel guilty? Yes I did then and I do know because I still have a child in the house. Funy thing I stopped drinking alcohol, but cannot stop the stupid smoking. No will power there at all. Maybe I shoud get pregnant again, you think? I think not, at 55 not longer possible. lol

I smoked before all of my kids (3 with a 4th on the way) and quit after I found out I was pregnant. I started back up after nursing and while still nursing. I didn't feel guilty because I figured even if I was smoking I was less stressed and that was better than a mom freaking out all the time.

well, i was a smoker before i even knew that i was pregnant, and when i found out i was, i quit, then i started again when my son was about 3-4 months old- i didn't feel guilty just stress led to the smoking again- now i'm 36 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby, and i went through the same thing again. it all depends on how strong ur urge is to smoke- if u're strong willed like me, it won't take much for u to stop.

I gave up in anticipation of pregnancy, new year 2005. My lo is now 4 months old, and I'm still a non smoker. I can't imagine where I would find that sort of money now!

I'm not a smoker, but just so you know, you can smoke and breastfeed. It is better to smoke and breastfeed than to smoke and formula feed.
