I know a guy name Jim Bob, and he went AWOL during his AIT training in the U.S. Military. He was eventually processed out of the Military with a general discharge I believe. Anyway, he is applying for a police officer job, and he told the background investigator that he had never been in the Military. I told him he should have been honest about it as they could find out in the background investigation that he served and this would destroy his chances of becoming an officer as he tried to conceal this information.

That guy is so foolish to lie, and he just dug himself into a deep hole with no way to get out. He is banking everything on this job and him lying was really foolish and wrong.

As an Investigator and an ex military person I can tell you YES !! they can and they will find it very easily. and if he told them he was never in the military he has lied to them and that will be grounds for him to never get in. Also if he was processed out on a charge of AWOL that is a crime in its self and that alone will keep him form getting in in most cases. Tell your friend he was a fool for lying and thinking they will never find out.

They sure will find out. And if the Army still has him down as AWOL, they might do what our department does here. Schedule the guys next step in the hirig process but actually have the MP's waiting to take him into custody. We actually had a guy that had outstanding warrants for domestic violence apply and when he showed up they arrested him.

Uh, yes it will show that he has been in the military. Now that he has lied about it, he will not be hired at that department. He has also screwed his chances of getting hired at any other department as well.

Good Luck!
