You could try setting an example of good health (ie: eating well-balanced meals, exercising, etc). You can cook for the both of you, invite her to go along with you on walks, etc. That way, instead of making her feel inadequate (cuz you know that no matter what you say, she will feel hurt), you can be a positive influence. If it really matters to you that she get more healthy, it will be worth the extra time and energy on your part. If that still doesn't work, I suggest you look within and ask yourself honestly if her weight is a deal breaker to you.

To me, there is no advantage for you to bring up her weight. She has a mirror. She knows. Pointing out the obvious will only lower her self-esteem (which lowers her motivation to change) and make you the bad guy. Good luck!

Firstly, is she actually overweight or are you one of those insecure guys that has the obsession with girls being skinny? I'm not too tolerant of the latter type, but if she genuinely is overweight or her body fat is too high, then you should just encourage her by maybe cooking a healthy dinner for you both one night or suggesting you go jogging or cycling together, maybe even get a joint gym membership. Make it about the both of you and getting fit and healthy together. Take care : )

I say tell her you are looking to either loose weight or be healthier, ask her to support you, by being your exercise partner, and eating the right foods with you (so YOU won't be tempted). This will help in a couple of ways:

1) People loose more weight when they have a partner.

2) You never have to actually tell her its for her, which will save her feelings and a huge argument.

3) You yourself will get on the road to being healthier

4) Your motivation will help to motivate her to make changes.

Instead of suggesting that she loose weight maybe suggest doing some activities together that would require her to be more active such as bike riding, hiking, or just taking a walk in the park together. You may not need it but one thing your certainly don't need is to make your girl feel unattractive or inadequate. You might also try taking turns cooking food for one another instead of going out to eat.

How about suggesting that you guys work out "together" you know.... BOTH get in shape.... and have a trip or place in mind... so that she can see a GOAL in mind that would appreciate, and not a hidden attack.

Now if you don't like to work out, and you might need to get in shape a lil bit yourself, then you are living in a glass house.
And this would be a great time for you BOTH to start something together.

You don't want to gain those holiday pounds... lol!
Good Luck.

Tell her you want to take up running or walking and ask her to do it with you so you won't be lonely. Not only will it be good for both of you but it will give you some positive together time and you can encourage each other. I would definitely workout more if my boyfriend would do it with me. It's boring to do it alone.

i know what worked for me: my boyfriend started working out and started telling me that even though i am still beautiful (which he always says) he can't forget this one time we were going to play volleyball and how i looked then. he describes the day and what i was wearing, what my hair looked like and how my body looked. it was a couple years back but we can both accept that our bodies change: sometimes when he works out he will jokingly say i'd better keep up with him or he'll find...... that's all just flattery and positive encouragement- it should work

Is this for health concerns or vanity?
If you voiced health concerns it would probably be okay. I said probably! The only other way is if you said something like "You 're built a lot like so and so. If you lost 10 lbs. you would look just like her".
This might not work either.
