Dogs that are spayed before their first heat live longer, healthier lives.

Did you know that after a dog goes into heat the chances of it developing ovarian cancer raises? And ovarian cancer is deadly. How bout you take her to the vet and get her spayed? All of my dogs are spayed and neutered. It prolongs their lives, and you won't have to worry about her getting pregnant when she plays at the dog park or has to be kenneled when you go out of town. I work with certified veterinarians and dogs that are not spayed or neutered also tend to be much more aggressive. My cousins dog always ran away from home, but after he was neutered he stayed at home which is always an added plus. So please look into getting her spayed, it is better for her. Dogs topically go into heat at 6-7 months old, and if she hasn't already than there may be something very wrong with her, so she needs to see a vet ASAP.

my terrier is 8 months old and has just come into heat. To those people saying 'get her spayed' vets have very differing opinions on the benefits of spaying before or after the first season. My vet will not spay my pup until 3 months after her first season as she believes this is a healthier option (something to do with mammarian cancer/incontinence in later life).

Should be soon, or perhaps she already had it? Its not uncommon for a dog to have a light cyle like humans, or she might be a dog that takes very good care of herself.

The symptoms at the beginning of the heat cycle usually starts with her paying a great deal of attention to and licking at her (lady bit's) frequently, and there is some hard swelling around the (lady bit's) area.

hmm well every dog is different, some come into her every 6 months, my st bernard comes into heat every 8 months, they all differ, it would be hard to say when exactly your girl will come into heat , but when she does keep note of it if you are planning to breed her and make sure you do your research cause if you dont then you wont have a clue what to do when the puppies come and they will be depending on you, i did my research but nothing can prepare you for the birth and raising the pups

Nice. Backyard breeder that hasn't been able to housebreak the dog and it's 6 MONTHS old?? Tell him he ought to pay you! I wouldn't pay more than $50. No papers means no guarantee it's purebred, regardless of what it looks like or what he tells you. Make sure both your male and the female are altered. No point in becoming another backyard breeder.

Your pet could come into season anytime,as I've seen dogs come in at 7 to 12 months old.Of coarse it isn't good to breed a dog this young, you should wait at least her second season.

between 6-12 months but if your asking because you want her to have pups the best time is when she is 2 thats the perfect age, although i dont agree with breeding dogs as there are so many out there that need good home as they have been neglected and we shouldnt use our pets as money making machines xxx

The first heat could be anywhere from tomorrow - 14 months old. Here is a very good article you should read: http://www.dogbiz.com/faq-heat-cycle.htm

Hope this helps,
