It affects my son and his family pretty drastically. He works installing drop ceilings and cannot be promoted because he is not bilingual in spanish, as the higherups at the company have to know spanish to interact with the Mexicans, which are mostly illegal. And because they've got no W4's, they're paid under the table, untaxed and less than minimum wage, which means they get to go to the better jobs and work more hours because my son has a higher wage and has to be paid time and a half, legally, for overtime. It severely affects his earning power.

Blanca o, immigration legal or illegal effects everyone.

All countries have to look at the what is best for the population that is living there. Every countrie could and does in theory have policies regulating who and how many enter their country.

Using that lets take Mexico as an example and how it would effect them: do you think it would be rational and widely excepted by the Mexican people to let in millions of people "yearly". Having them compete in the work place willing to work for less wages, demanding equal rigtht, benefits, resources, educating their children?

Walls aren't the total answer but they do work and are used in many countries. The Berlin wall was to keep people in. The Great wall of China was to keep people out in fact it worked so good it was built twice.
China at present is starting to build a wall between them and North Korea and there is a DMZ fence between North and South Korea. I could name at 10 more countries that have or had wall to either keep people in or out. That is the right of the country to do it for what ever reason and it is no other countries business. No more then someone should tell you how to spend your money on what ever you can afford to buy.

You last statement about just coming for work I will relate back to my example about Mexico.

As far as crime well I agree somewhat except the fact is that 25 % of our prison population is illegals coming from Mexico and Central America.
75% of all felony warrants in Los Angeles, Atlanta Ga. are for Illegal Mexicans. The problem is getting worse all the time. Mexican drug gangs are up over 200 % in the last 5yrs. and the Mexican drug cartel is causing major drain on law enforcement personal. Urban warfare is going to be a major problem within a few years where most of the illegals come to and residing in.
Terrorism is a sideline what the training is being done for in many cities.

Mexico isn't a poor country in relationship to other countries in the world. I can say I am poor if I lived next door to Bill Gates. Does that mean I am poor??

The problem with Mexico it's easy for the government to be a welfare country to the USA instead of better the country for its people. If the USA was to stop aiding. Don't hold your breath i'm not holding mine, Mexico likes being a welfare couch pototoes.

Blanca O what is most distrubing and sad is that the Mexican gov't by it action and statements hates the average Mexicans, much more then any American hates illegals. Until Mexicans here and Mexico wake up to that fact nothing will change for them.

What is going on in this country now behind the scenes which most are totally unaware of, will not be good for the majority Mexican or American citizens living here today in the very near future. Think about it.

I was in Texas last week and this boy of about 5 yrs. old was standing in the hallway of a major hotel, crying and fiddling with his fingers. It was a cry that you knew something was wrong. I went to him to ask him some questions and console him. That boy did not understand ONE word I was saying. I had to hunt down a mexican cleaning lady to help. From what I got, he was left alone in the hallway because someone didn't like him talking the way he did. Now, that is an injustice to these children. What if I couldn't find anyone that spoke spanish. They do NOT want to come here and become Americans. They plan on turning this into a meximerica. I should NOT have to learn spanish to speak to people in my own country!!!

If I go to mexico (ha, never) I would be expected to learn spanish so I can understand them, they will NOT change their language so they can understand me!!!!

Statistics show that 1 out of 4 illegal aliens from Mexico spends time in our jail system paid for by our tax dollars. They get out and get deported to Mexico and end up back in our jails when they return. Of those illegals arrested and deported, the average number of times deported is 4. I am personally effected by not seeing my tax dollars used to support US citizens who need govt. assistance and must share the resources with illegal aliens. I have to inform potential employers that I am fluent in Spanish to get a job that English only candidates can't have. I am laughed at by illegal Mexicans who speak a different dialect when I attempt to speak proper Spanish to them. My tax dollars paid for a new secretary at my kid's schools so that parents of English speaking kids can talk to someone at the school in Spanish. I can't find juicy juice on the store shelf because illegals used their fraudulent documents to get it free from the WIC program. I pay more for products because stores raise the prices when illegal aliens steal them. I pay more for insurance because hospitals can't afford to take care of US citizens and give free health care to the illegals lining up at emergency rooms with no insurance. Hospitals I could go to are closing due to the influx of non citizen patients they can't turn away. The fact that the overwhelming majority of illegal aliens come from Mexico is one reason we need to protect the US/Mex border. I'm all for fencing the Canadian border as well, but we need to address the Mexican border first because it is being crossed much more frequently. Pakastanis are crossing the Mexican border using fake Venezualan documents, and Hezbolla (sp) the terror group has been proven to enter via this border. When we secure the worst border we can work on the Canadian one next. All in good time my pretty. All in good time.

It effects me when I can't order a hamburger in English and be understood. It effects me when I have a college degree and speak 3 languages but can't get hired because I don't speak Spanish. It effects me when I can't sleep because they are blasting music at 3 am and vandalize your property because you complain. It effects me when I can't safely go to a town meeting because they are bussing people in to disrupt the meeting from other towns. It effects me when my childs education is less because there are too many students that don't speak English. It effects me because my taxes go up more and more each year for more schools but the value of my home decreases in actual selling price because of the neighborhood. It effects me when there are too many unlicensed and uninsured drivers on the road because my life is literally on the line everytime I run an errand. It effects me because the increased cost in medical care is to help cover what they don't pay. ETC!

Immigration affects all of us. And it's primarily for the good.

Current birth rates among native born Americans is quite low. Without the influx of immigrants we would actually be a nation with a shrinking, aging, population. Under those conditions, our economy would stagnate and we would face economic ruin. Our economy has to grow in order for us to retain our position in the world. Without population growth, we wouldn't have that.

Furthermore, with the baby boomers reaching retirement, our social security system is faltering. We all know this. We've talked for decades now about the problem our population bubble would cause when the baby boomers hit retirement. In fact, immigration helps us combat this problem because younger workers paying in to the system help support these older social security "takers."

Let's look at the myth that immigrants, legal or illegal, don't pay taxes. Social security is paid on your gross salary. All wage earners pay it. Also, the burden immigrants supposedly put on our schools. Immigrants live somewhere, so presumably there is propert tax, the basis for school support, being paid by someone to house these people - housing that might otherwise not exist if not for the demand from immigrants.

Let's look at jobs. When was the last time you ate in a restaurant and weren't served by immigrants? (Hint: Look in the kitchen.) How many other important services are provided for you EVERY DAY by people who weren't born in this country. The fact is: Our economy could not function without immigrants.

The biggest problems we face with immigration are these: Racism, and our unwillingness to develop an immigration policy that works.

The racism is self explanatory. Think of it this way, does the word Mexican have positive or negative connotations for most of America? How about Somali? Or Sudanese? Or Hmong? You get the picture. That's racism.

Now, how about an immigration policy that works? Ok, do you know that we have quotas intended to limit the flow of immigrants? Even if you think the quotas are a good idea, do you know what those quotas are? They are based on historical data - the countries who supplied the most immigrants in the past are the ones who can supply the most immigrants today. How many people do you think want to immigrate from England or Scotland to the US today? Fact: The quotas are unrealistic based upon where we have pools of labor who want to come to the US. In fact, the quota from Mexico is INSANELY low, especially when in the years the quotas reference, Mexicans simply walked across the border, undocumented, just like they do today, and are therefore underrepresented in the counts.

Even if that mattered, it's still bogus. Our immigration flows should reflect the needs of today, not of ancient history.

Fact: Mexican labor is CRITICAL to the functioning of our country.
Fact: We have defined a ridiculously low quota to Mexico, Somalia, and other countries where many people are poor, and where there are many who seek opportunity in America.
Fact: Most of these immigrants have underlying value systems not so different from Americans.
Fact: No nation on Earth has ever been able to stem the tide of movement of workers to work. Ever.
Fact: Without immigrants, our economy would crumble.
Fact: We are irresponsible citizens of the Earth if we do not find a way to share the opportunities of our country.

BIGGEST FACT: No matter what we try to do about it, we are not going to change the movement of workers enough to matter. Labor always rises to do the work. The actions we have taken in regard to Mexico, for instance, simply mean we have defined a certain group of people as "illegal labor." Any problems that rise from that are our own causing. We could change our attitude and work with these people, for the betterment of EVERYONE on the planet. And if we do, we'll be a better, stronger nation for it.

Immigration is not a problem.

Illegal immigration is a problem.

This is not about people hating Mexicans.

This is about Mexicans being a majority of the people coming into this country illegally.
