What could this be? A nightmare? Did something terrify her?

I agree with Amber. My daughter also whimpers but after she uses the bathroom she sleeps fine. It could also be some other discomfort. She may be cold or too hot. But if she is potty trained, most likely she has to use the bathroom.

Good luck.

My daughter would do this. And actually still does. I go in her room when I hear her and even though she is still sleeping she can still hear me. I ask her what is wrong and she just whimpers. I finally figured out, she had to use the bathroom. Never fails everytime she does this, I go in , pick her up out of the bed, put her on the tiolet, and she pees, after she is done, I put her back in bed. And she is fine. She knows she has to pee, but cant wake up enough to get up and go, and she does not wet the bed because she is a big girl now. This could be your daughters problem. Is she potty trained or are you in the process of training?

Sounds like nightmares. Is she eating anything like chocolate or sugar before she goes to bed? Alot of things cause nightmares. Try looking up some things and see if there's anything you can do to help her to quit having them.

my 10 year old brother does the same thing. I watch them every other week while my step dad goes out of town and it happens every night. it freaks me out! he never remembers though so it can't be too bad.

likely a dream. my daughter does something like this too. off and on again.

If you check on her and she looks ok and she doesnt' complain in the morning- I wouldn't worry about it. She will likely start to remember her dreams soon.
