I know wind is a factor, but I'm not sure how.

Try to sit in a stand where the wind is blowing from the deer towards you. Hopefully you have done some scouting and you have a good idea about which way the deer travel at various times throughout the day. If you haven't scouted then your stands may already be in the wrong spot. Make sure that you are as scent free as possible. Also try using a wind indicator, many times you think the wind is blowing one way but the trees cause an eddie that changes the wind down where the deer are. Release a milkweed or feather, (powder will not work for this) and watch where it floats to....your scent will go the same way.
Good luck

If you know where the deer are coming from you want to make sure that the wind is never going into the deers direction where you are sitting you always try to have your scent going away from the deer

Which ever stand the deer dont approach from down wind, if you have to worry about wind. Invest in scent lock and some good boots and the wind wont matter.

You want the wind in your face if possible. The stand you want to hunt would be where all things meet. Tree lines, fence rows, creek bottoms, corn fields, bean fields etc. If you have a stand at this point, you will see a variety of deer. Find this area, if you have it, and hunt that. Bucks are going to start roaming in the next few days. They will get out of there comfort zones and work tree lines and creek bottoms in search of there scrapes and be looking for hot doe areas. They won't be chasing the does yet, but they will start to stake there claim..

you pick the stand that is in the best place. especially during the rut. Find one with lots of does if you are trying for a buck. where does are, there are bucks to follow. You always want the wind in your face so you are downwind of your quarry. Don't forget to be as scent free as possible.

Happy hunting.

When you are facing the direction that you believe the deer will come from, you want the wind to be hitting you directly in the face.
