my favorite salad is this Chinese Chicken salad my mom taught me to make and it's way healthy!
Grilled chix breast
Mixed greens & romaine
Mandarane oranges
sunflower seeds
rice noodles
red onion
grape tomato
Good Seasons makes a oriental seasame dressing mix
I mix it like normal and then use the juice from the oranges to top of the mixxer.
I also like Avacodo on salads, it is so good for you. You want to stay away from cheese, 2% or low fat if you must. Also light dressings or olive oil and vinegar lemon juice. No croutons, just sodium and carbs. Nuts add protien.

Italian dressing, or any dressing, for that matter, can be good for you as long as you don't eat too much of it at one time. Crackers/croutons, as you know, are carbohydrates, and should be eaten lightly. If it's the crunchy part you want, why not try a soppnful of sunflower seeds. They contain protein, the "good" fats, and they are perfect if it's the crunch that you want in your salad.

Fat Free Dressing
Olive Oil based Dressing if you're using Italian
Carrots
Broccoli
Beets
Hard boiled egg whites for protein
Black Beans for protein
Cucumber
Tomatoes
Onions
Spinach
If you're going to use croutons I suggest making your own so you can monitor the amount and type of oil. You just cut up bread, season and coat with a little olive oil. Bake them at 350 until they are cooked how you like them.
I like to put grilled chicken breast and diced apples in my salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing (made with olive oil). I also add shredded carrots and cucumber...very yummy!!

Crackers & croutons add fat and calories cause they are carbs. Esepcially croutons since they can be the buttered kind with all kinds of stuff on it. You should look for reduced fat or no fat italian dressings. There are a ton of them at the grocery store. i like orange slices, shrimp, walnutes, sliced strawberries, almond slivers, and olives.

Italian dressing is good. I'm partial to raspberry vinegar and olive oil. In addition, craisins (cranberry raisins), almond slivers, olives, walnuts, cherry tomatoes, avocado slices, shredded cheddar or mozzarella help make a salad delicious.

www.kraftfoods.com has tons of ideas for salads I have made a different one off this site for 5 months and have loved everyone of them. you can create a meal plan for the week if you want that incorporates the exact nutrients you need daily. The avg cost per week is $100 for the food but the site is free and you get differnt rec. for breakfast lunch and dinner with 2 snacks.

Id watch the calories on dressings. I personally LOVE balsamic vinergrette and I found one that only has 5 calories per 2 tbsp and its DELICIOUS! So check the calories out... nothing else matters if you are trying to lose weight.

Croutons, lots and lots of lettuce would be great. Sprinkle of chicken, tomatoes , cheese and a bit of thousand island dressing (you can mix ketchup and mayo)...

Make your own.
a little vinegar, a little olive oil (very good for you), some herbs or something
try this
a little apple cider vinegar
brown mustard
honey
pepper
shake it up
then add some olive oil
shake and serve
yummy
