I actually think you're right. I think that God orchistrated evolution. However, alot of Christians are scared to believe anything that isn't written down in the bible. I like that you're willing to be flexible in your beliefs, I think thats why God gave us free will in the first place :)

First, Darwin was not 100% right; he made mistakes. For example, it is biologically impossible for two different species to come from another species.
Having said that, I will say what I've said before: The 10 most important words in the Creation fable are "in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Everything else is just a primitive tale concocted someone writing within the context of absolutely zero knowledge of the workings of the physical universe. If Genesis had been written in the mid-19th Century, then it would probably read a lot differently.
God did create the universe, but exactly how is something we'll never discover. The writer of the Genesis account didn't know; Darwin didn't know either. Only God knows, and that's probably the way it should be.

Darwin was a self proclaimed Agnostic. According to
Charles Darwin (1809-1882) by Doug Linder (2004)
Charles Darwin understood better than anyone how his theory on the origin of new species threatened prevailing religious beliefs. He referred to himself as “the Devil’s Chaplain” and complained that publishing the theory felt “like confessing a murder.”
Many who support his theory are Atheists. So it is easy to think that a person who believes Darwin is right does not believe in the existence of God. Not that it is true.
On the other hand many evolutionists to not agree with his theories about evolution. Even Darwin had doubts about some aspects of his theory. The above reference says: "Another criticism of his theory, however, gave Darwin more difficulty. Critics saw little chance that complicated organs such as the eye could have emerged gradually. They must, it was believed, be the work of an intelligent designer. Even Darwin admitted doubts.

If Darwins theory is correct then the Christian religion and all creation myth legends are false. A simple problem Darwin as a Christian struggled with himself.
I would like to see this "Quote" that prople are claiming Darwin made recanting his theory. I personally do not believe it.
Josh also us making a false statement about Darwin's beliefs, Darwin and those around his time, even the Church, had pretty well given up on the Idea of spontaneous generation.
It sure would help if people had a clue about what they were saying.

I really can not answer for some people other than they are a little misguided, nothing horrible. I know of Catholics and other Christians who believe in evolution, but guided by the hand of God. I personally believe in Creationism and still get along fine with those who believe Darwin is right.

I wouldn't assume.
There are tons of Christians out there who believe in Darwin. I've seen a few cars out there with the modified Icthus that has little feet on it and says DARWIN in the middle.
So there must be tons of folks in other faiths that believe the same.
Mark Twain, where in the world did you get that the pope supports darwin? You're way off base there... See the link below.

Darwinism has become kind of a rallying cry for atheists as "proof" that God doesn't exist. I agree it is very possible for a person to believe in God and in evolution, but the people who "cram Darwinism down others throats" tend to be atheists and thus the confusion.
Darwin also thought that maggots spontaneously appeared out of meat.

Because to saying that Darwin is right is that Humans evolved from a single cell to the present-day mistakes we are now, thus saying that God never said, "Let there be light." thus making the sayer an atheist; whereas saying that the Bible is right is saying that God DID say "Let there be light", thus saying that we weren't here one moment and the next we suddenly were, thanks to God's warped imagination, thus making the sayer of some God-fearing religion or other.

Honestly, about 99.9% of people that I've met who support Darwin (and completely support him, no mixing Creationism with Evolution) are atheist. That I've met. I didn't see the question you are referring to, though.

The Pope believes in Darwinian evolution. All mainstream Protestants have no difficulties.
It's just the OCD nutso right wing fringe of evangelicalism that gets excercised on the topic.
