Eat less and excercise. I saw an episode of a tv show where a woman said, "close your mouth and move your body". It's a simplistic way to look at it but it's true.

You lose weight by burning more calories than you put in. It's just that simple. Now what you do eat does need to be healthy, you need to get all your nutrients and such. But you should do that anyway, to be healthy not just to lose weight.

Use the information you find on food and meals and diets as a guide and modify it to something that is palatable and feasible for you. The trick is to be able to develop healthier habits during the 'diet' time that you can continue when you're ready to just maintain your smaller self.

As for excercise, find physical activities that you like. If you don't like machines, don't join a gym. If you like to walk, do that. If you like aerobics find that. If you like to dance, find dance classes to take. You have to like it to do it and to keep doing it.

A few specific ideas:
- set some kind of goal and deadline. it helps to have somethign to look forward to.

- use a smaller plate when you eat. if you want to measure things, great, but that's not for everybody. use a smaller plate and commit to not getting seconds.

- find a friend who is in the same boat as you and do it together. it helps to feel like you'r enot doing it alone and to have some accountability.

- track your progress. if it would motivate you to actually see how much you've lost in the last week, do it. write it down.

I am no expect, but I have been in the same boat as you and these are some ideas and ways of thinking that helped me. If any of it helps you in some way - cool. If not, that's ok too. We're all different and different things will work for different people.

Just don't give up!!! Good luck.

Going about a diet CAN be healthy IF you do it right and don't bother with pills and such.
Use the food pyramid and follow it, it does work and best part of it is not a fad diet.
Exercise and follow a doctors instruction...go in for a check up and tell them you want to lose...ask for help they are your doctor for a reason.
Good luck it can be done...I lost 82 lbs this past year....diet and exercises...and I never felt better!

Eating like that is MUCH healthier than having too much excess weight! Excess weight can cause cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. SO DO THE DIETS.. GIVE THEM APPROPRIATE TIME TO WORK... Its better to diet than to have too much weight. Good luck
