Hi,

I've noticed that I get very hot and tense when I meditate. I am new to meditation. Any tips?

Perhaps you are trying too hard. Relax...when you are meditating and obtrusive thoughts enter your head, don't tense up. Tell them, Hello thought and just observe them passing through your mind. But it's not a contest. Meditation can be done while formally sitting, walking about and even while doing simple chores. Just put all of your awareness in the thing that you are doing. Perhaps walking meditation would be good for you. Maybe you are very energetic. But keep at it, it gets easier with time.

It is normal for one to sense a rise in temperture,I found it seemed hot but was not because i did not sweat. it was not that uncomfortable. try a cooler place for meditation, eat less meat & oils and pizza.. what form of meditation? do you have a teacher? try to find a Siddha yoga metation center if you wish to practice the highest of meditation under a teacher who has the power of God to baptize with spirit,on web find; syda.org/the guru gurumayi chidvilasananda..You can still be what ever religion you wish

My first response was to tell you that staring at porno is not meditation. But, meditation has infinite forms. My guess is you're trying to hold an uncomfortable posture. Meditate lying comfortably on your back and breathing calmly and see if it still happens.

Consider sitting somewhere other than the top of your radiator?

Seriously, begin with your breath, and allow your breathing to be deep and slow. Breathe in such a way that your shoulders and back expand, then try switching to focusing on your belly expanding, with each focus breathing slowly, and continuing each focus for about a minute each. "Invite" comfort to fill you. Breathe into those areas that you find are developing tension: breathe into your hands, into your shoulders & neck, into your face.

These are metaphoric statements, but many people find them meaningful and useful. If you are using a mantra, put off chanting for a while until you can develop some comfort. You can always go back to chanting later on.

Meditation should not cause you to become tense, this is not it's purpose. I think you might try to change your method, and also, as far as your body temperature, you may want to see yourself submerged in a cool pool.

Best of luck, and try something new.

This is an educated guess based upon past experiences.

Your spiritual element must be fire. If I were you, I would meditate in shallow water (such as a bathtub), or find someone whose spiritual element is water.

Maybe try a more comfortable position (lying down if needs be), I think sitting up straight can easily have that effect on beginners.

Other than that - fans, ice packs, air conditioning :)
