Because the New Testament is when Christ came into the bible. He was not alive in the passages of the Old Testament. That does not mean that either testament is more important than the other but that would be why people only hand out the new ones. Also it is because the Old Testament is mostly about creation, social situations, overcoming adversity......Christians are trying to get the word spread about Christ first. If read about a man that died to save you forever than more than likely you will find a bible and look into the rest of the scripture.

Costs too much, they think. Unfortunately, they assume you already know how mankind got here, what his nature is, and the prophecies in the old testament that point to the good news in the new testament. Most people do not have a clue and don't want to even take the time to read about it. There are orginizations that give out the entire bible, but then there are many cults that give out a modified translation, or will give out a King James bible along with their own writen perversion.
Go buy a modern translation from a Christian bookstore.

It's not that the new testament is better than the old, or that the old doesn't matter any more. It's simply because if someone is curious about the Bible they will be more likely to understand and be interested in the New Testament because it is generally easier to read. The Old Testament has alot of geneologies, land allotments, regulations about how to sacrifice, what makes you unclean, how to deal with being unclean, etc.

Good question!!! Some churches or groups believe that we only need to study the new testament, - some believe this because they think the old testament is only for "jews", and others think that its in the past - that we as Christians need only be concerned with the New testament because thats When Jesus arrived on the scene. It's ridiculous. The ENTIRE Word of God from Genesis to Revelation is all equally as important.
Once again, leave it to man to decide that only PART of God's Word is needed - Some groups even tell you that you don't have to read the book of Revelation (even though its new test.) because they say if you're a "good" christian, you're gonna be raptured out so it doesn't pertain to you. What Garbage!!
The Bible says NOBODY is going anywhere. Best advice is not to listen to anyone who tells you that any of Gods Word is less important than another part of it. Thats man deceiving people.
Listen to God, not to man. Study his Word on your own if you have to, rather than join a group or Church that will deceive you.

Because they're Christians or Protestants...Jewish people only study the Old Testament, the 5 books of Moses.
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy.

It is said that in the Old Testament Christ is concealed, but in the New, He is revealed. By giving out the New Testament, it is hoped that the reader will be clearly introduced to the Savior.

The same question with me before. This people who are giving free bibles are the Gideon. Gideon has many different types of bible depending on the place where it is intended. Mostly Hotels and Hospitals got the Old and New and its a lot bigger. These books stay in the room. I heard from Gideon that the intention mainly is to share the gospel of Jesus so it comes in smaller size that you can even put into your pocket.

The way I was taught was that we don't live by the old testament... we live by the new testament. The old testament is like "history".... new testament is present... I dunno if I believe that or not..... I must do more studying on that subject to find out myself.... Hope this helps to some degree :o)

Old Testament. Personally I would rather read the Books of the Apocrypha (all 5 dozen) that the Catholic Church refuses to publish.
