One can of Diet Coke contains only one calorie. It takes 3500 extra (meaning additional calories your body doesn't need to function) calories to equal one pound of weight gain. You would have to drink a LOT of Diet Coke in order to gain weight based on calories alone.
One can of Diet Coke contains approximately 0.1 grams of sugar. That's basically sugar-free and nothing to worry about.
One can of Diet Coke contains approximately 41 grams of sodium, or 2% of the sodium your body needs every day. (That's actually more sodium than a regular Coke contains.) So, if you're eating a healthy, nutritionally-balanced diet on a daily basis, that sodium will not cause your body to retain enough water to reflect weight gain.
If you're exercising and eating a healthy diet without a lot of added salt, your daily habit of one Diet Coke will not effect your weight.

Diet Coke, regardless of how many calories it has, wreaks havoc on your fat loss efforts and will ultimately cause you to gain weight. There are two main reasons for the Diet Coke fallacy. First, the sweet taste from Diet Coke elicits an insulin spike, which blocks your ability to burn fat. Second, artificial sweeteners found in Diet Coke disrupt satiety, the feeling of being full. Combined, the actions of Diet Coke go against a healthy lifestyle. Understanding why ensures that we think twice before consuming it.

The diet coke doesn't contain sugar however it does contain caffeine and the caffeine will cause you to retain water or to bloat which will cause temporary water weight gain. It's best to limit any caffeine intake to two drinks per day. If you drink coffee and diet soda then only one of each then switch to water. In order to lose any water weight that you have retained it is imperative that you drink lots of water...go figure, but that's what Atkins and Weight Watchers say to do.

~~~Drinking just one can of "diet coke" won't make you gain weigh because its diet , only one calore or 0 calories. But I know the carbonation in any soda will make you feel bloated,,,,I have heard that If you plan on wearing say a slinky outfit on the weekend,,,then dont drink any carbonated drinks or eat any full fiber foods for two days before,,,that will help you get a flatter stomach and not feel to bloaty,,,,,
