It's the nickname of Alcatraz - see below

Overview

Alcatraz Island offers a close-up look at the site of the first lighthouse and US fort on the West Coast, an infamous federal penitentiary long off-limits to the public (and despised by inmates), and the historic 18 month occupation by Indians of All Tribes. Rich in cultural history, there is also a natural side to the Rock - gardens, tide pools, bird colonies, and bay views beyond compare.

What people dont like is that they feel The Rock used wrestling as a stepping stone to get into hollywood, then plays a tooth fairy. SCSA had to retire due to injury, Ricky Steamboat is about 60 years old,so is Ric Flair but he doesnt seem able to retire. People hate Hogan for what he is doing to TNA. I can understand both points of view, tbh, you have to look at both sides. U could say that Rock, Dwayne whatever u wanna call him hasnt had a succesfull film for ages and is once again using wwe as exposure to get where he wants to be. The telling factor will be how long he sticks around after wrestlemainia, really. Yeah, I guess i'm sitting on the fence but I'm kinda indifferent to Rock, I'm not a big fan but I certainly dont hate him. Lets just see what happens. I very much doubt he'll actually wrestle afull match again

The Rock, I do believe refers to Alcatraz Penetentary. It is a prison off the bay of San Fransisco on an island unto itself. The waters are so cold and choppy that it is impossible to escape. It is known as The Rock.

The Rock was the nickname for Alcatraz, as others have said.

I don't know about the US, but the Canadian island province of Newfoundland (which was never a prison colony) is also called "the Rock" because it too is a rocky island in the ocean. (North Atlantic)

Rock is also a kind of music.

It is just a nickname for the prison in the movie. The prison, Alcatraz, is a man made island. And a big "Rock" is just what it looks like. I love that movie.

Its about the prison Alcatraz. That was the nickname given to the prision. It was probably given that name because the island it was on was a giant rock

Alcatraz is not a man-made island. Black Widow has confused Alcatraz Island (natural) with Treasure Island (also in San Francisco Bay) which is man-made.

"THE ROCK" was a slang name for the prison in the movie beacuse it was on a rocky island.
