After commerce, its going to be difficult to get and DEGREE of computer engineer, as for any engineering the knowledge of physics, chemistry and Maths is necessary, as per the engineering rules in whole India.
But there are ways, unfortunately long. You can do hardware or software courses from institues as NIIT, Boston. Just visit this page from JetKing institute. http://www.jetkinginfotrain.com/recruiters/courses.htm. I dont know if this gives you any degree, but this will certainly give you jobs in IT field. I can say this as one of my cousin, who just finsihed the administartor course, got an web site administrator job.
There is also a program known as Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). This you can do from IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University). This is part time course, so you can do it along with your job. After completion of this course, you will be considered degree holder. You can see the details here http://www.ignou.ac.in/socis/programmes/graduate/bca/bca.asp.
But this course, will not be enough to give you good job in IT. You may have to furher go for MCA, to get a post graduate degree. If I am not wrong MCA and not BCA is considered equivalent to Computer Degree.
I hope this answers ur query.

I can tell you from experience the Rosetta Stone is great... for the first two weeks. You might notice that on the commercials too. The people giving testimonials say things like "I learned more in the first two weeks than I did in 6 months of school!" Don't fall for that. It's true that you learn a lot of words in the first two weeks, but after that you realize that you have no idea how grammar works, or why things are being said in certain ways. What's the difference between a masculine and feminine adjective? You have to learn languages the old-fashioned hard way. If you are super determined, you might be able to get through a text book on your own, but it's an understatement to say you have to be determined. If you can find a teacher or a class, that's the best. I know they cost money, but it's money being spent well. Buying the Rosetta Stone (or other programs) will be money down the drain that you could have put towards classes. Emersion is will accelerate your learning a hundred fold, but we can't all just pack up our lives like that!

You need a B.E./B.Tech degree in Computer Science/Information Science from an AICTE recognized institute to be called a Software Engineer. And i agree... the first thing on your list of things to learn would be English..

College is my short answer. Go and get a degree in computer science. It is very comptetive. you may be able to get the knowledge without college, but someone with a degree may appear more skilled. In the meantime, go get a book on .NET or Java and start to learn the basics of programming. Enjoy!
