If the puppy is only 5 days old it still needs to be nursing from the mother if at all possible. If that is not an option the pup will need to be bottle fed with a special formula that can be store bought for puppies. They won't be ready to wean until they are about 5 weeks old and have a small set of teeth. The puppy also needs to be held almost all the time. You will also need to stimulate bowel movements and urination by wiping it's bottom with a baby wipe or warm cloth.

Do NOT give the puppy cow milk or ensure.

If something has happened with the mom, then you should feed it puppy formula with either a bottle or an eye dropper every couple of hours.

Keep the puppy warm.

I know with kittens you have to stimulate their anus for them to poop. I am not sure if it's the same with puppies, but it seems like it would be.

If you just want to have the puppy now because of impatience, shame on you. The mother should take care of the puppy until at the VERY least 6 weeks. 8 weeks is better.

A dog needs to be at least 6 and usually closer to 8 weeks before it is removed from its mom and the litter. Doing this too early could cause serious health and developmental issues. If the mom was hurt, killed, or unable to take care of the puppy then you can fill in for her, but the puppy will need serious and continuous attention. Consult a vet about the special requirements.

Why would you take it from the mom?

When my black lab had 9 pups I started to help fed them at about 3 day olds, its not easy and takes as much committment as a newborn human baby, and in some cases more and that was with the mom's help with the other stuff like making sure it stayed warm, had bowel movements and other important stuff.

If you have no choice I would suggest speaking with your vet and see if he knows of any serogate mom's for the pup or other possible solutions.

Most likely. If the Mom has split for good, and you think you can take care of the baby, try the following:
1. Keep it warm and out of drafts
2. Feed it warm whole milk with an eye dropper
3. As it gets bigger, give it Ensure
4. It will have to be fed every few hours
5. Give it occasional drink of water by dropper.

Is the mother injured or has she abandoned the pups? Unless she cannot take care of her pups you must leave the puppy with mother. However, if she cannot take care of her pups then you absolutely have to get the pups to a vet to get the proper nutrition for them. They will have to be bottle fed around the clock, kept warm, and safe. There are numerous things that pups need at that age and you will have to act as a surrogate mother to them. If you do not feel that you can care for these young pups, you need to give them to someone who can and do it immediately. They will die if not cared for properly.

If the mom is gone you have to care of the puppy anyway. Looks like you have to go baby bottle shopping. Good Luck.

Yes. Puppies should not be weaned before 2 months of age. Is this a serious question?

Occasionally puppies will have to be hand raised because of extreme extenuating circumstances such as death of the mother, but it is never, never the ideal.
