I totally agree with the post of voiceinwilderness...in the meantime you talk to the doctor-therapist-counselor, since I know it must make you more concern and embarrassed but breath in and remember that is a child and does not understand in reality it just feels good...in the meantime when you see your child doing this.., try to go to the other room and call on him/her and entreating with something else....as a word of caution...you really need to find out if there is something going on..(i don't mean to scare you but maybe somebody is touching the child inappropriately or she is seeing things she is not supposed to see) not necessarily at home...masturbating is normal but maybe the child is a little too young to be doing it Almost every day...but there is help out there do not be ashamed and look for a therapist okay don't let this pass by as a stage just to be on the safe side :-)
Good Luck.

No, this is not normal. If his body is already at this stage, then it will pay to both see a doctor and perhaps discuss this with your son. He must have had some sort of exposure to this kind of behavior. I have heard of (rare) cases where boys this young (and younger) have, when they think of a special girl in their life, usually a close girl friend (not girlfriend) they have, their bodies have had the reaction of an "erection", but they don't usually understand or know why. Again, though, this is rare. Besides, at 7, they should be thinking about playing with "GI Joe's", not "Jane's". Again, it is not normal--but if he's advanced in maturity (physically), it may be considered natural. Help him through this, as he must have questions and dosen't understand why.

Most of these posters don't realize that children masterbate at a very young age (babies do it when being diapered), but should grow out of it between 6-8 years of age. I was a substitute teacher and this was a topic of conversation at times with the other teachers, because it often was a sign of social immaturity. Teachers would GENTLY & QUIETLY remind the child that this kind of touching is appropriate when we are alone, and not when we are in class/around others. If your child seems obsessive about it, I would talk to your school counselor about it and see if the child's teacher has noticed it - what their thoughts/suggestions on the subject would be. **If this is something that just started out of the blue,** you (or the school counselor) may want to talk to the child to ensure that an adult has not been abusing the child.

Good luck and God bless!

Yes, its completely normal.... and its a wonder why any of these nay-sayers are even answering the questions since most are kids themselves.

Some children find out about their genitals when they get out of diapers, others find out before then. As has been posted, by the time they hit kindergarten, there are many who prefer masturbation to cutting out flowers and trees. As they mature they learn that touching oneself has all sorts of negative connotations in our culture and they seemingly stop, or at least in public.

If this child is masturbating in public, its time to explain that is not the place and time for that kind of touching. If the child is doing it in the bed before going to bed, just turn out the light and close the door and realize your child is growing up.

Just hands in the pants kind of touching? or "real" masturbation?

Boys that age often have their hands in their pants, some more than others. It should be explained to the child that this is something that is done in private. If the kid is normal in all other ways (lots of friends, good grades etc..) I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I would say that age 7 is a little early to be masturbating daily. Although a few children hit puberty at that early age and if that has happened, then I guess maturbation is goign to happen although maybe not particualrly desirable.

After reading the sick answers from some these
people, I have to question myself for even being on here.
But, it is perfectly normal and don't worry my son is 6, he
does the same thing. They just don't understand what that
feeling is all about and what else would you expect them to
do? It is so innocent and when they get a little older we can
explain it to them.

WOW that is definitely not normal , i have a 6 year old boy and he doesn't have a clue about that stuff. He is way to young to be doing that sort of thing, especially on a regular basis.
