Whether or not he's violent, there is no sense going back to an alcoholic. YOU can't make him change, he has to WANT to change for himself. Loving an alcoholic is a nightmare. Find someone healthy & leave the ex alone, please. Don't go back - always go forward, never go back!!! He's your "ex" for a reason, right? Whatever it is that you couldn't stand about the relationship won't have changed, especially if it's his drinking that bothers you the most. I know - my ex-husband is an alcoholic & is never going to quit or sober up. My dad was an alcoholic too, but managed to stop. He's ruined, tho - burned out. Go to some Al-Anon meetings, talk to a therapist - whatever, just don't go back into an unhealthy relationship or you will never be happy. Good Luck.

People who are alcoholic are often very selfish, until they get the drink they want. If you think this is a problem I would probably not go back to him. If he's prepared to and able to quit, and join the AA or become a social drinker for you, I would reconsider, but if he's not, the drink's more important to him then you, and you should stay well away from him.

It's good that he's not violent but he's still a drug abuser and he needs help. If you really want to be involved with him than that's your prerogative, but I encourage you to really think about that. I'm not saying you should abandon him because he has a drug problem. I'm saying you do need to look at the big picture. In any case, I would encourage you to support him in getting help.

he might not be a violent drunk but he is still a drunk and you dont need to be around them because the bottle is more important than you.
