Unfortunately, while walking will help tone the legs, there's not much toning in the upper body. The cardio however is great and will help burn fat all over your body, so you may notice muscles that have been hidden behind fat. This, though, is not toning the muscles. Although you're not burning many calories, it is good that your walking. Try to walk at a faster pace each time for a week in order to get your heart rate to its target level. Cardio workouts only work best when the target heart rate is achieved, then your body has to really work. Try resistance band or light weights for toning the upper body. Best of luck!

NO it's not pointless. Walking/running will tone up your ENTIRE body and give it definition. How long are you doing this for? I walk/jog on the treadmill 4 times a week for 45 minutes. After just 2 or 3 weeks you should start to see a change in your legs, more tone, muscle. :) Keep up the good work.

How long are you walking? Shoot for 30-45 min at around 3.5 mph and you'll burn over 200 calories.

keep it up, I know it seem useless , but keep it up. It help keep your heart healthy and you will loose weight and tone too. BUT you will have to do more types of exercising, like push ups, stretches, etc. and drink plenty of water. my daughter has lost 55 lbs and is the toning phase now, it does work, don't give up!! and if you are 18 or older a stackers #2 won't hurt either.
