How about patterned charcoal and cream? It would add visual interest, with all the solids. Cream for a carpet is so impractical, too.
Check these FLOR carpet tiles out. (We love FLOR tiles at my house.)

yes, as your sofa is cream, a darker carpet would probably be a good idea
the colours would then make a natural contrast against it.
however the darkness of the carpet and the colour chosen could make a big difference to the tone of the room.
if you chose a charcoal coloured carpet, the colour would have to be a lighter shade, as otherwise the strong colours would stand out too much and over-shadow the cream.
however, although i have said all of that, laminate flooring would probably be the best option, as then you would not have to worry about contrasting colours and different shades.
hope this helped.

A\ darker cream for the carpet would be nice, or something flecked perhaps. Make up a little sampler board of your colours and take them to the carpet shop to get ideas. Or some shops will let you take carpet sample books home to try.
I presume you don't have kids - a cream carpet won't stay looking good for long if you do!
Get the best quality carpet you can afford.

I have just done my living room cream and charcoal- my walls are cream and the feature wall has charcoal coloured wallpaper- and my chairs are cream, its looks beautiful but my floors are oak coloured wood and it looks fine, but if i was going for a carpet i would use a darker cream, i used to have a carpet and the colour was called 'sand' it was really nice i would go for that shade.

I'm doing an interior design course at the moment and from what i've learnt it dependes on how much of each colour your using. If alot of cream and little charcoal as acsents then go darker for the carpet if alot of charcoal and little cream then lighter carpet. its all to do with balancing out the colours.

A darker colored creme could work or some medium toned accent color you have. You want something to kind of blend the harsh difference between the charcoal and the creme. A beige/brown or white carpet might also work. I would avoid going with a grey carpet unless it was a light gray.

Dark carpet is definitely a 'No,No' as it shows every spec of dirt.
Wooden flooring is the best, besides its durability and practicality it also brings in some texture and introduces a natural source.
And then you can go mad introducing a bit of colour in with a rug - 'cos you will probably need to add a bit of colour which you can then buy ornamental objects reflecting the same colour and will compliment your theme.
Next to wooden flooring I would suggest Coir matting - extremely hard wearing, natural and roughly the same price as carpet.
Good luck! :0)

I think you need a accent color in this room. If you have wood floors I would suggest a geometric designed area rug in cream, charcoal and red. If you're doing wall to wall, I'd get it in a cream and charcoal flecked style. It would show less dirt. You should use red toss pillows. and maybe red in your drapes. You need some zing.
