She cannot be around firearms or she can get violated and sent back to prison. THe firearms have to be kept in a locked safe that she doesn't have the combination to. She can't even ride in a vehicle with a firearm and I've never known a cop yet that went anywhere without his pistol, on duty or off.

Her record may also be difficult to keep a secret, especially in law enforcement communities. If any of his friends come over, is he going to ask them to put their weapons back in their vehicle because of his wife? If he goes to competitions, and she never goes, won't someone ask why? Whoo boy. If he has political aspirations, that could hurt. Legally, they may not be able to do anything about it, but it could be political suicide for him.

People never, ever forget that you were once a convict, or married to one. Law enforcement folks have strong feelings about it, too. Some are more tolerant (the older ones tend to be, especially depending on the crime) but some folks are just plain buttheads.

I think this would affect him mostly because of strong opinion about felons, and his inability to have convenient access to a firearm AND her at the same time.

Good luck to your friend.

The best answer I can give you is to talk to her probation officer first. Because a convicted felon cannot have a firearm in their possession, and the gun would be in the residence therefore it would be in her possession. Now if you left the gun at the station I do not see a any conflict of interest. But her conviction would not hurt you as far as getting into law enforcement. But remember to be open and honest with the department first about her history.

Why not? He's not the felon or on probation. If his record is clean, why should he be punished for the sins of the spouse? But then again it's Texas.

I dont see why not. The police department will run a check on him and if he has no felonies, etc against him then he can be a police officer. He, himself, has to be of good character. It does not matter what his wife has done.

Her crime should have nothing to do with your aspirations.
