Would you call the police because a mob was threatening rape?

Or, would you call the police because a mob was threatening homosexuality?

This basically is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The story also includes Lott’s willingness to offer his two virgin daughters to appease the mob. (I’ll refrain from comment on that.) I really don’t see anything in this story that’s taking issue with two same sex people in a committed relationship.

And for those who will refer to Romans… pretty clearly seems to be talking about rampant promiscuity and prostitution which includes homosexual acts. Again, this scripture isn’t talking about two loving same sex people in a committed relationship. How do Christians get to homosexuality as abomination based on these scriptures???

You might refrain from comment on that, but I won't. That story is one of the most sickening displays of how men have treated women like dirt, even his own daughters were not worth his protection in his eyes. If a horny angry mob is at my door the last person I'd send out would be my child. The bible makes me want to puke.

I think that people can easily hide behind Scripture in their lives when something makes them uncomfortable. Ancient Greeks and Romans indulged in bisexuality and homosexuality all the time and it wasn't wrong, they weren't impure for that. I understand what you're saying and the only thing I can think is that a log log time ago when Christianity was first beginning, one person interpreted this Scripture as being against homosexuality and no one has ever argued it. Maybe it's time someone did. Sodom and Gomorrah is always seen as an unclean place beause of the homosexuality when really, it's unclean because of the people who rape and pillage. I hope this makes some sense and if not, I'm sorry.

Ummm, no, Romans very obviously talks fairly about homosexuality being an abomination that is the end results of our sinful nature. In Matthew, "a guy shall go away his father and mom, and be joined to his spouse, and both will be one flesh." not joined to his husband, joined to his spouse. Marriage became created by technique of God as an emblem of Jesus's relationship with the church, and is amazingly meant to be between a guy and a lady-- in basic terms study Ephesians 5. you do not must believe the Bible's truths, yet do not attempt to faux that it's not sparkling about homosexuality and marriage. EDIT: sure, and search4truth has 2 large references the position the Bible fairly speaks adverse to homosexuality.

THE BIBLE SPEAKS TO PEOPLE DESIRING TO DO THE WILL OF GOD

Acts 15:29 ... Abstain from 1, 2, 3, and 4 is fornication, which is any sex act other than man and wife union to produce a family. A man [ or pair ], will leave father and mother and the two will be one flesh. The apostle Paul did not allow those that desired to do the will of God to participate in fornication or men and woman doing that which is unnatural [ to God's law, it was natural to Sodom and Gomorrah's law or the the people of the world 2Tim.3:1-7 ]; as unnatural affections is not the will of God, and some homosexuals as they are called now did turn away from that to do the will of God. Some people do all they do for themselves.
People willing to be for God, puts flesh need aside, they can be sexless as Paul.

Matt.10:15 In the day of Judgement it is expected that Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than Jerusalem and the areas surrounding it. Heb.9:27 It is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgement 2Cor.5:10 all shall stand before the judgement seat of Christ Jesus Rom.14:9-12; Philip.2:5.9-12; John 5:20; Acts 17:31;

SODOM AND GOMORRAH DESPISE GOVERNMENT AND THAT IS A NO NO TO GOD

[ UNLAWFUL TO THE LAW OF THE LAND GOD AND MAN IN A LARGE MAJORITY].

If ten [ 10 ] righteous persons found nothing would be destroyed. Even angels did not have the right of self morals. Jude 7,8; Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Jude 1:8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. SODOM AND GOMORRAH MAJORITY HAD NO RESPECT FOR THE LAWS OF THE LAND. The way they treated the visiting angels is evident the had no respect for anyone. 2Pet.2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 2Pet.2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 2Pet.2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) 2Pet. 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 2Pet.2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. THERE WILL BE A JUDGEMENT DAY: Heb.9:27; 2Cor.5:10; Rom.14:9-12; 1Cor.6:3,4 [ Judges ]; Jude 6;
Matt.10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Matt.10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. JUDGEMENT DAY: Matt.12:36; Philip.2:5.9-12; Acts 24:15; John 5:26-29; Dan.12:2; Psm.49:14; 104:29,30; 115:15-17; 146:3,4;

because if u understand what happened 2 sodom & gomorrah, why do u feel the need 2 question further?
sodomy/buggery is a sin against god.
simple as.
MAN SHALT NOT LAY DOWN WITH FELLOW MAN.
How can U misunderstand that?
Anal sex is damaging & an abomination 2 God.
& I think what he wants is far far more important than what mortal man wants.
i don't dislike or hate gays, but i will not condom the act of buggery/sodomy as a true reflection of love or accept it as an act of love.

Homosexuality knows no borders! It matters not whether these people "love" one another in a "committed relationship" or not! Romans says that ....."men would BURN IN THEIR LUSTS one for another, working that which is UNSEEMLY. And likewise also women with women....." Therefore, if the relationship be homosexual OR heterosexual, if it's born out of LUST, it's an abomination unto God.

Phones, police, and guns weren't available in ancient times, but I sure as hell wouldn't offer them my kids. Beating them up would be more like it. I've seen women attack, too. Pans and kitchen implements can sure be used.

I also don't see where either of those passages refer to modern same-sex couples.

I think that the Christians who (ab)use these passages, already have their minds made up and are looking for justification.

Agreed.

And in any case, Jesus said to treat others as you would want to be treated. I think that ought to override anything Paul said in Romans or what's in the OT... unless one does not really follow Jesus. Paul's not God, right? Right?

Anyway Jesus spoke at length about divorce and never mentioned homosexuality. Yet you don't see anyone lobbying to abolish divorce...

I think they get to "homosexuality is an abomination" because they think it is yucky and embarrassing and they are afraid their children will go gay.

It's all based on fear. Given that you can find something to support most any belief in the bible.

Exactly! How many gay guys have you heard of (outside of the Bible) that go around banging on doors shouting "Bring out your men so we can have sex with them!"?

Of course you know that this won't exactly change their minds.

Btw, anyone who says they have a problem with it because it's sick and makes them want to throw up, well that's just your opinion I'm afraid. I can't say that I enjoy watching fat people having sex but I don't condemn them to Hell because of it. I just don't watch them. Easy.
