I'm in college trying to prevent myself from gaining much wieght. i try to work out 4 times a week but I have horrible binging problems and late in the evening I always grab a bag of popcorn or something fattening. Any tips on how to control what food you eat and any weight loss tips?

Try to eat fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Take dinner 2-3 hours before bedtime. For example if you sleep at10 p.m. then take dinner before 7 or 8p.m. This seems very innocuous but it really works wonders when you are trying to lose weight. Take several small meals throughout the day rather than taking 2 or 3 heavy meals. Fix your timings for each meal. Often a signal for thirst is misunderstood by people as a signal for hunger so drink water as much as possible. Try to keep yourself engaged in different activities which will help you to take your attention off the food.
As far as exercise is concerned, weight training is very effective to burn more and more calories. Running can also be very effective in burning fats in our body. This is because when we run, fat from all over the body is burned at the same time. Cardio exercises are also important to stay in shape.

Continue working out and try to get your friends to exercise along with you. Get rid of the junk and get some good food! Drink AT LEAST 8 glasses of water each day. Every time you feel like eating that fattening popcorn, drink 2 glasses of water and if you must, take a fruit instead. Try to do something to keep your mind off food, like reading or studying (without eating!). All the best!

Get rid of any 'bad' foods in your apartment or dorm. Not having it around helps. Stock up on healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. When I have snacks in the evening (which I try not to eat past 7:30) I cut up an apple, wash some grapes and throw in a kiwi or nectarine. I feel a lot better after eating that than I would a twinkie or something. Best of luck!

I do have a suggestion for weight loss. My parents tried the 6 week body makeover thing, and it worked like you wouldn't believe. They had both lost considerable amounts of weight and size even, and gained a lot of energy. And i think they were on it like 4 to 6 weeks before quitting (time reasons). So if you need to loose some weight give it a try. I definitly recomend it. Good Luck.

Cardio + Light weight training + Proper Diet = Goal

* Eat whole food
Top weight loss tips
Eat whole foods that are as natural as possible. When you eat whole foods that are full of nutrients your body will know how much to eat and how much not to eat. You do not have to count calories because your body is a wonderful machine. Suggest eating veggies, fruits, and proteins. Stay away from junk food, fried food, and anything else that you feel is bad for you.

* Eat fresh fruit
Eat at least two servings of fresh fruit every day. Choose whatever type of fruit is in season. Also consume protein because both fruits and protein can fill you up and it makes your stomach seem like its full.

* Drink enough water
Drink the best weight loss supplement known to man, water. Most people do not know the difference from being hungry for food or thirsty for water. A great deal of times people eat when they should drink. Most likely you will not feel as hungry if you are getting enough water. You will be satisfying the thirst, which is confused for hunger. Water also helps you digest food better. Drinking water before you eat will help fill you up.

* Always chew your food
Always chew your food well. Chewing your food well will ensure that you get the most nutrients out of your food. Getting the most nutrients will satisfy your body therefore you will eat less. Another benefit of chewing well is that it helps aid in digestion.

* Take small meals
Eat small, frequent meals in a day. Large meals tax your digestion system, making it work harder. Taking too much time in between meals makes you hungrier for the next meal. That means eat 5-6 meals a day instead of 3 huge meals a day.

* Include protein at meal
Include good sources of protein at meal, chicken, fish, legumes, peanut, cottage cheese, eggs or yogurt.

* Shut off TV while eating
Shut off the TV whenever you eat – that includes meals and snacks. Studies show that we automatically eat larger portions when we snack in front of the tube, and typically those foods are high in fat and sugar, which means excess calories!

* Increase your physical activity ( Cardio )
Increase your physical activity. Most people are over weight because of a lack of physical activity. Start walking more, bicycling, walks your dog for longer periods of time, swim, dance and leave the car at home when you can. It’s important that you choose a physical activity that you enjoy because you’ll stick with it.

*Weight training ( Light 5 to 10 lbs )
buy some dumbells that are 5-10 lbs and do some exercises with them. Search google: Dumbell exercises and you will see a bunch of useful links along with pictures and description on how to do it. When gaining weight but your doing everything correctly and see changes in your shape, that means you are building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat so dont be alarmed when that happens. You can workout in front of the TV and watch your favorite episode of whatever and it will make time go by faster

walaikum assalaamu wa rahmatullah Advice on health during Ramdan To remain healthy during Ramadan, normal quantities of food from the major food groups: bread and cereal, milk and dairy product, fish, meat and poultry, bean, vegetable and fruit should be consumed. (Vegetarians and Vegans should amend this list as appropriate). Intake of fruits after a meal is strongly suggested. In actual fact, our diet in Ramadan should not differ very much from our normal diet and should be as simple as possible. The diet should be such that we maintain our normal weight, neither losing nor gaining. However, if one is over-weight, Ramadan is an ideal time to shed those extra pounds! In view of the long hours of fasting, we should consume the so-called 'complex carbohydrates' or slow digesting foods at Sahur so that the food lasts longer (about 8 hours) making you less hungry during the day. These complex carbohydrates are found in foods that contain grains and seeds like barley, wheat, oats, millet, semolina, beans, lentils, wholemeal flour, and unpolished rice. In contrast, refined carbohydrates or fast-digesting foods last for only 3 to 4 hours and may be better taken at Iftar to rapidly restore blood glucose levels. Fast-burning foods include foods that contain sugar and white flour. Dates are an excellent source of sugar, fibre, carbohydrates, potassium and magnesium and have been recommended since the days of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) as a good way of breaking the fast.
