I am living with my sister and her husband for the time being until I graduate high school and go to my basic and AIT training for the military. This Saturday is my last homecoming and I want to stay home while they go to eatonville and my sisters in laws and they are making a big deal of it. I am old enough to make my own decision and I am thinking of telling them that I will get a job and pay for food and my part of the rent if I am able to make decisions for myself. Hell I was old enough to make the decision to join the military why can't I make other decisions for myself? Do you think I am being unreasonable?

if you have made all those other desisions yourself, maybe your sister should trust you a little.

The whole thing is they don't want you to miss out on the home coming experience thats all, and family usually have a funny way of telling you, ya it's your life, and you make your decisions, but you need to understand they just want to see you happy, and not miss out, From my past, I was always in trouble, I couldn't go to stuff like this, and in one way I wish did have the experiences. So maybe you should go, and enjoy yourself, it wont hurt, right?

I can understand why they would be disappointed that you're not going to homecoming but you are definitely old enough to make your own decision. If you're comfortable with not going then don't go. Try to explain your feelings to your sisters in law and I'm sure they will try to be understanding.

Get the job first, get the money in your pocket, then you unreasonable goes out the window. Right now they are financially supporting you so you can better your life, don't be insensitive.

Maybe they want to spend time with you before you leave for the military.

No, I never went to any of my home coming or prom. It just was not my thing. I don't see why it is such a big deal either!

may be they don't want to leave you alone to mourn for your long gone babysitter. don't you think 5yrs is enough!!. if not try explaing things. sure they will understand. don't offend them by suddenly starting to pay.
