If he is all powerful and perfect and not human...why does he have the need to rest? Living things require rest to rebuild cells,What does he need rest for? As parents we dont bring our children into this world and then descide to take a nap while they are neglected and suffering. How many of us would bring children into this world and then tell them to look thru this book that we left for them and if they can figure out all the clues then they will be blessed and allowed to be our child and given everything. And then we say to them" While your searching for me I'll be taking a rest ( for thousands and thousands of years) and when they ask why they need to do this we tell them, not to question our love, everything will be o.k, have faith. Does this sound like a loving devoted parent?

This sounds like a reasonable question to me.

I wonder if you will ever get an answer or just a lot of tap dancing???

Thumbs up on this one and I don't do it often.

True, an All Mighty God does'nt ever need rest. The book of Genesis shows this in a metaphoric way. When God rested, he basically was done with his creation and did'nt need to do more. So he stopped, which is like resting.
If you drive your car for a few thousand miles to your destination and finally arrive for a few days, you then gave your car a break from the work it did. Does that mean you can't use it because it's tired? No. Your car is still capable of being used that same evening if need be. This is just a car. God is much more superior of course.
You seem to have many questions about God. That's understandable. Read the Bible some more and keep asking questions. In time all will be revealed to you.

No and it does not sound like GOD either.

The reason GOD rested on the 7th day is not that HE needed it but rather to show us that we need to take 1 day every week to rest and devote the day to HIM.

GOD is not neglecting anyone on Earth today either. It is us who are doing the neglecting. God has provided everything for ALL living things to survive and thrive, but we as humans do not take care of our responsibilities to help those who have less then us.

GOD has not gone anywhere, and HE is not napping. HE is right here all the time, just waiting for us to get desperate enough to admit we cannot do everything on our own, and ask for HIS help. HE has left much more then some book as you put it, HE left HIS very Word. Also HE has sent His HOLY SPIRIT to lead us and guide us, to bring back to memory things that we have learned, to keep us from going astray, to comfort us when we need comforting, and to shed light on the truth. We have the witness of those who have gone on before us, and the wisdom of those those who have been living the life of a Christian for many many years. GOD wants us to talk with HIM every day, this includes listening for HIS still small voice and being able to know HIS voice from all the other voices.

Give yourself fully to HIM and you will NEVER be left alone again.

Choose you this day who you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Don't take the story of creation literally! God didn't need to take a day off, and God doesn't even need. The story of resting on The seventh day is about the importance of family. If took the 7th day off why can't we.

Don't take the bi bile word for word, you will only find contradiction and and misunderstanding. Try to understand that God by being God means that He is beyond our experience, so we have to use imperfect language and tell stories. These stories and reading between the lines, not the words on the page is where the real meaning lays.

The Creation 7th Day (Sabbath) not only commemorates the power and beauty of God's Creation; it also stands as a perpetual memorial that man's own works will never advance him or bring him any merit whatsoever in the estimation of God. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the [free] gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph. 2:8, 9. Let it be forever understood that the Sabbath reminds us weekly, and every time we remember it, that salvation is the [free] gift of God: not of works. As such, The Creation 7th Day is the sign of God s redemptive power, proclaiming Him as lawful Master of the repentant sinner.

Those who refuse to enter the Creator's Rest fail to remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. This class keeps a day unto themselves and becomes labeled legalistic. These must do something of their own devising or their own choosing, in order to please God to create a rest in the soul. They must mold some sort of idol which masks their false impression of the true character of God. This is not authentic rest! These individuals fight for their rights, become offended easily, show anger quickly, complain about the circumstances of their lives, and manifest other ill spirits. Yet, these same Christians continue their high profession deceiving themselves, and saying, We are the chosen of God.

Two reasons: First, it was a 'rest' as in a musical pause. He wasn't tired. Second, to provide an example for mankind. Before this was written, people worked 7 days a week. In fact, there was no such thing as a week. You just worked all the time. This 'rest' is a gift from God to man.

Okay first of all the word being used in Aramic Hebrew is Elohiym. That's plural. So it says Elohiym rested on the 7th day. This would be, who we call, Angels. God does not rest. Preachers are saying this literally means God rested. However that would be a countradiction. And we cannot let the Bible countradict itself. So here the Elohiym have to be so called Angels that rested. They took part in the creation of the Earth.

I don't actually believe this but here is a theory.

What if the 7 day creation story is drawn out into the million year idea that some christians hold.
One day to us is like a million years to god.

And then. . .what if we are still in the 7th day.
God is actually still resting!

There are no miracles happening. God is not listening to our prayers. He isn't stopping all the evils of the world. He is basically sleeping.

Just a thought

You almost completely answered your own quetion in the first couple of sentences. God did a lot of things by EXAMPLE so that we could be taught to see the need to follow after what Christ did for us. He didn't need to eat, but Christ broke bread with the disciples many times! He rested from His labor for the same reason; so that we could understand the need to rest and rejuvenate ourselves.

God is all powerful and perfect and not human. He does not have need to rest, He just did. We cannot fully know or understand all the reasons why God does certain things. Having said that, I think that it is important to question God and question why things are as they are.

We are to practice imitatio Dei. As God is holy, so too should we be holy. As God is merciful and loving, so to are we to be merciful and loving. "Whatever God does, that He commands us to do." As God rested on the seventh day, so too are we to rest on the seventh day. As you pointed out, living things require rest to rebuild cells.

Unlike God, parents require rest, just as all people do. Also, God does not decide to take a nap. The Holy One, Blessed be He, neither slumbers nor sleeps. God never said while you're searching for Me, I'll be taking a rest for thousands and thousands of years. "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him; to all who call upon Him in truth." "What other nation is so great as to have their gods as close to them as the Lord our God is as close to us, WHENEVER we call upon Him?" "Before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will have heard." The gates of prayer are never barred. God does expect us to follow His commandments as spelled out for us in the Bible. God does not say don't question My love for you. God says, fear not, be strong and resolute. Search for the Lord, with all your heart and soul, and He will give you the desires of your heart. God never promises everything will be ok w/o giving a reason. God only says everything will be ok, IF we follow His commandments. His commandments include love for your neighbor as yourself, don't steal, don't commit adultery, don't murder, don't bear false witness, help your enemy when you see his animal fallen under its load, have honest and just scales, don't accept bribery for judgment, pursue justice, love mercy, give charity. Only if we do these things, will everything be ok. We should have faith that God is good and just and gracious. But we should not have faith that God will stop suffering and hunger and poverty. That's our job as beings fashioned in His image, to make the world a better place. God is a loving and devoted parent.
