and did their own thing for a couple of days? Or do you think that if they come they should hang out?

I think that they should spend time with you and your family. Try to make your spouse feel as comfortable as possible around your family and that will make them want to interact with everyone. If he wanted to do his own thing for a few days, he could've stayed at home. Thats tha facts.

Depends on what was planned. If it was as family gathering, it might be considered rude. But if it is a new town and he knew there were very different things to do and see there that you were bored with, let him enjoy them.

Did he come back during the evenings or stay out all night for a couple days? Coming back in the evenings to share what he had seen, where he had been and what he had done would be great for sharing interests at dinner. However, if he stayed gone the whole time - including nights - that would constitute a rudeness and inconsiderate attitude toward both your family and you.

I can't even get mine to go with me in the first place! It offends me, but you can't make them do what they don't want to. I have given up this fight, as I think the problems lie deeper than issues they would have with your family. I think it has something to do with issues in their own family, and perhaps they don't want to see yours that doesn't have those problems, it reminds them how messed up their family really is. Although, it's okay, because there is no such thing as a "normal" family. But men are wierd. Especially when they don't even see their own family much; it'd be different if he really saw his family all the time and wouldn't put an effort into seeing mine...he just doesn't have much to do with either side.

I wouldn't blame him for wanting to get away from the in-laws for a little while, as I probably would when visiting his family. But there is a limit, once you are married you need to become acquainted with the in-laws and in order to do so and build a relationship you have to hang out and spend time together.

No my sisters husband would come in stay for a little bit or over night depending how late they got in and leave to go hunting for a day or so when they came in town. Didn't bother anyone really as long as he didn't just push her & the kids out the door in front of the driveway and speed off, we never gave it a second thought.

Ths spouse should not go off at all. Where was he off to? To see his mistress? His/her action is highly questionable. I wouldn't trust them.

I WOULDN'T BE OFFENDED AS MY HUSBAND IGNORES HIS OWN FAMILY. WELL I SHOULD SAY MY HUSBAND WAS VERY CLOSE TO MY MOM WHEN SHE WAS LIVING AND YET HE RARELY TALKS TO HIS OWN ALTHOUGH SHE HAS CAME TO VISIT US AND WE HAVE WENT TO SEE THEM. WE LIVE ABOUT 1,000 MILES APART.
