I've been told that females have been punished with menstrual cycles, childbirth, and menopause because of Eve's sin, but does this really make any sense? After all, Homo sapiens isn't the only animal species in which the females have menstruation or livebirth. Also, what about the animal species that reproduce sexually but don't have menstruation or livebirth? And what about the species that reproduce asexually? Does it make sense for God to punish humans and some other animal species but not others?

It's very healthy to question.

I myself believe that it's just pure biology. No religious mumbo jumbo answer, just that that's the science of life.

tangerine,
"Do you believe that women have been punished with periods, childbirth, and menopause because of Eve's sin?"
I think that you have it right except the childbirth part. It's actually then pain of childbirth, the labor.

I think that the animals changed too.

"Does it make sense for God to punish humans and some other animal species but not others?"
I think that what you are asking is, "is it fair?"
I cannot really answer that. Some things I leave to His wisdom in what implications that the pain that animals suffer is accomplishing. I don't have all the answers, but maybe someday I will. God owns it all, so I can only know what He brings to me. I trust Him with whatever He decides.

Actually, it would. Only if u read through the bible it will be very sexist in hundreds of verses. The bible was written when women and men were not treated equal so that's a good idea of why it's so sexist against women being all second class in everything. I'm not saying the bible is just none sense but some stuff in there might not be true and thankfully the bible was not written by God. It was written by humans who by the way could have made the bible say whatever they wanted.

Absolutely not. God is fair. He won't punish zillions and zillions of female generations just because a single sin of a woman.

Your mother is human, which means that she sins, therefore did God punish you because of HER sins? And did God punish her because of your grandma's sins? It doesn't make sense, right?

Besides, I'm Muslim, and the Quran said that it wasn't Eve's fault alone. Both Adam and Eve ate from the tree at the same time; no body influenced the other. And no where in the Quran did God mention that women are punished because of Eve, or even men were punished owing to Adam's sin.

No, I don't believe it is a punishment. Periods, menopause, etc. are related to childbirth and a direct result of the ability to have children. I believe that having children is probably one of the greatest blessing God could have given anyone. Because I'm a man you can surely criticize my opinion, but I've seen the way mothers and children bond and the relationships they have because of birth and the activities that follow and I don't think there is anything stronger. No relationship is like a mother and a child.

Yes, it so states that women have the trials of childbirth in the Bible because of the original sin (which, by the way, belongs to Adam and Eve). The other female problems I think just came along for the ride too. Who knows what God would have done if the original sin had not been committed. We will never know. Yes, it does make sense to God - unfortunately, it doesn't have to make sense to us.

That's a very interesting question, but I can't imagine that it's true. If anything, it would be a blessing to experience child birth.

But I'm not the best person to ask as I don't believe in Eve's sin in the first place. I can tell you this: because of a severe illness I am on medication that stops me from having my periods and has left me (hopefully temporarily) unable to have children. I'd give ANYTHING to have my periods again and maybe being able to give birth...

If I weren't already an atheist, you would have given me food for thought.

As it is, my only answer is apparently god was really petty back in the day. It seems that he mellowed later on. After having a really big tantrum (the plagues and baby killings and all that). Just goes to show - god or mortal, we all need to blow off steam some times.

Too bad he wasn't "man enough" to offer an apology or rectify the situation later on.

From what I understand, the consequence of Eve's sin was that childbirth was going to be painful. Menstrual cycles probably still would have happenened because they are necessary to reproduce.

My child. A womans cycle is a blessing, not a curse. It helps
to get the unused egg out of a womans body before it decays
and makes her sick.
It is the blood that can be used for evil purposes. There are actually elemental types of entities that help to break down
psychic matter, and they affect blood.
Ever notice how cleaning your house actually makes you FEEL
better? You have cleansed it of these kinds of entities.
Surely we can find more sophisticated ways to deal with these
things instead of SUPERSTITION and FEAR!

I wouldn't call it a curse, I would call it a blessing.

Yes menstruations can hurt, but they also come with important hormones that keep our bones and the rest of our bodies healthy.

Being able to have children has got to be one of the most powerful and amazing attributes of womanhood.

And menopause naturally gives women's bodies a chance to rest, so she can have more fun with her grandkids ;)
