Whats the best choice for me? I want something small but I have two kids and every once in a while my family might need to ride in this car. So it need to be safe. I do alot of driving for work...city and highway so good gas mileage is a priority. I am not too concerned with looks but I dont want to be laughed at while I'm driving. If me and the wife go on a date and take my car I want her to feel safe in the car and I want to look at least moderatly cool. So a car that is sexy would be plus. Answers from people that have actually owned the car would be great.

My recommendation for you would be to check out a nice japanese car like a honda or a toyota. They have small models that are 4-door. They also get great gas mileage and look kinda cute. There are also a couple of nice volkswagen models.
But, if I were in your place I would buy a Toyota echo ro yaris, or I don't know what they call them in the States. They are compact, get great mileage and they are one of the safest cars on the road.

Check out the 4 cylinder engine models of the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. Each car will offer you the room, terrific gas mileage, and a surplus of safety features to keep you secure. You can expect to pay in the low to mid $20,000s.

I just bought a black Hyundai Elantra--super safe, unbelievable warranty, and totally sexy. Great gas mileage too. I love it! I LOVE IT!

Check out the Huyndais and the KIAs. These are safe cars and have great warranties (10 year 100,000 miles).

If you want safe and reliable go with toyotas, subarus, nissans. Stick with the foreign ones although more expensive..it's worth it in the long run.

Toyota camry. No if and or butts,they are good on gas and reliable and fun to drive,if you drive one you will see what i mean.

Toyota camreys are nice and spacious and safe but Hondas are too. I've owned both and they were both great.
