It can happen in an instant or over a long period of time. Same with all the other symptoms. You can be talking one minute and then lose the ability the next second. There are different kinds of multiple sclerosis. People with relapsing remitting MS eventually recover from the symptoms. To what degree varies from person to person. With progressive ms, this is generally not so. MS has a lot of symptoms and not everybody gets the same ones. You can go to the National MS Society website and get an over view. The disease varies greatly in its severity from person to person.

I was diagnosed with secondary progressive M.S. 2 years ago but my symptoms started 6 years ago. There are 4 different types of M.S. therefore treatment is different for everyone. Mine so far has been gradually worsening. I have no relapses so in my case, the leg problems, which are many, has been gradual so far. With this terrible disease, no one knows what will happen from day to day.

It all depends on the person. Some people go for years without any effects. Some go straight to the crippling part of the disease. My mother-in-law has had MS for over 25 years, and only felt the effects about 8 years ago. I also have a friend who has it, and he is already having difficulty with his balance and walking.
Look into it, there are alot of new treatments for this horrible disease.
Good luck!

It can be either way. Sometimes you can feel it coming on a little at a time, other times you got to bed at night and everything feels okay but when you wake up the next morning you rlegs decide to give you a hard time. I get that way. Sometimes I have to literally roll myself out of my bed cause my legs feel like jello and they can't deal with the weight. Sorry to hear you have MS. I was diagnosed with MS in 2004 and I find some days I can walk okay but other days it takes me a long time just to walk down a small set of staires as my legs tend to give out on me. When my legs do feel numblike, I tend to reb them when I can just to keep the circulation going. My best goes out to you. If it gets really bad for you I recommend you calling your neurologist. Take care of yourself.
