Time will heal everything sweety. Just try avoiding him and at the same time start going out, having fun, and start making friends with other guys. Life does not end just because one guy rejected you, it only makes you stronger. Advice to you : Don't sweat it, do not chase him or mention what you feel anymore. He knows it already so if he changes his mind let him go to you, and if this ever happens you decide whether you still want to give it a chance or not.

Maybe the guy necessarily is shy and he does not want to jump into a relationship. Maybe he wants to get to know you a little better -- hence the friend situation.
In time, you can become "friends with benefits", or just end up dating in short time. Don't be put off by his statement to be friends -- I'm sure its just a matter of him being shy around you and he needs to become comfortable around you first before possibly dating.
