Red will fade quickly- and it may not easily adhere to existing blonde. I wouldn't attempt to do this on my own- seek a professional. My friend tried it on her own and it was a lovely shade of pink...

Depends on what colors are in your hair now and how they were achieved. If you had highlights before and they were pulled with bleach, leave those ones alone and get a hairdresser to foil your hair with the new color. If they are really light highlights from before if you get that maroon on them they will turn pink. Otherwise you can recolor you whole head one color, then pull through a cap or use foils and re-weave the new color through. Of course any which way you do this, your hair will be quite dry and damaged, just get some good shampoos and conditioners that will help retain the color and moisturize your hair. Good luck!

Maroon highlights make me cringe! But that's just my humble opinon. If you want this done, go to a professional stylist. There's too much of a margin of error if you do it yourself. Think it over, though. Nobody has maroon hair, naturally. If I can't talk you out of it, at least consider only a temporary color that washes out in a few shampoos, or one of those color mousses that last until you wash it out. Please don't be a "dye-hard", because you'll be stuck with permanent maroon highlights for a long, long time.

If you're unsure about what to do with your color, try a semi-permanent color first. One that washes out in a few shampoos. If you like it, then go for the permanent color. I'm not a big fan of Maroon or Burgundy hair. I prefer natural looking color myself, so I would go with the highlights.

Give yourself sometime and you might find yourself better in highlited hair. You might not like it at start but who knows, you might be liked by a lot of people because of that. Never judge too quickly. Keep Smiling, Bye

i would definitely go to a stylist, because shades of red are the hardest to get in your hair. they most likely never turn out like you want them when you do it yourself. it also helps if you have a picture to show them.
