As of right now the Army and the Navy are both offering a max of $40,000. With the Navy it is for the Nuclear Program, for the Army it varies on the job you go in for, the years you enlist and you ASVAB score. Bonuses also change frequently depending on the needs of the job for example; one person might enlist for a certain job and get 12,000 for that job. A person with the same qualifications can wait 1 week and only get 4, 000.
So the answer to your question in this---it depends. I can tell you that the AF and USMC very very rarely offer bonuses however.

The Army is offering the highest. There is a reason behind that though. They are hurting the most for people. I know right now the AF and Navy are trying to get there manning down so they cut almost all bonuses. When I first joined I would of made about 50,000 when I reenlist but about 2 years ago they cut it to 0.
I would recommend that if you are looking at what branch to go into due to the bonus they offer you should rethink it. Though you will get a bonus money dont last forever and after the money is gone and you will still have a job to do. Make sure you get a job you would enjoy rather then which one offers the highest bonus.

The enlistment bonus depends on several factors: job you take, sign up as active duty, needs of military (Army needs many), for how long you sign up.
Along with the enlistment bonus you can get money for college or education. Look at all your alternatives. Make sure you are not taking a job just for the money. If you want to get into the military they are hiring but find the field in it that suits you. An example would be the Navy who gives more for its Nuclear Program. It is a dangerous boring job and they give higher bonuses. The Army may give higher bonuses to Infantry right now and then you are on the front lines in Iraq. You need to take the ASVAB test for the branch you will be joining. But you need to tell them what you are interested in. Dont take something you will not enjoy as 4-8 years is a long time.
Here is something else to consider: The Army has quicker advancement (you can get rank faster), The Air Force & Navy it is quite slow. For this war the Army and Marines are the main ones fighting. The Air Force works alot with Planes and fighting the war from the air, the Navy from ships and subs. The Marines are a proud group but they usually get called to war first and work the front lines. The Navy works from the water and many times you are gone on ship 6-12 mos per year.
Please read about each one and pick the one you fit best with dont pick just for the BONUS MONEY as they all offer money to sign up.
And please once you get the BONUS dont blow it. Too many fine young men spend it all in the first month buying Mustang cars and NInja Bikes. My son who is in the Army (an Officer) sees this all the time and has to deal with the death of many of these fine young men. They get in accidents every day at Ft Hood Texas. He counsels them to use the money to start a new life once they are out. Good Advice.

ARMY National Guard offers a $20, 000 enlistment bonus for non-prior service members (meaning, never been in the military).
Depending on how your score on the A.S.V.A.B. is how your MOS (Military Occupational Skill) is chosen. The NG also offers a Kicker sign-on bonus if you score over a 50 on the A.S.V.A.B. test (might depend on the state that you reside in). Also, the NG offers the Montgomery G.I.Bill, 100% Tuition Assistance, The College First Program, & a Student Loan Repayment Plan.
There are many features when you join any military branch.. choose wisely. I'm sure if you ask a recruiter, they will be glad to answer your questions.

i think army is as overall yes, any rate u enlisted army get a enlisted bonus as far as other branch only some rate (i would usually the higher tech rate require higher ASVAB score) get a bonus, reason why army has more than other in bonus because their need body. cause 80% active army in the ground in iraq or afghanisthan.. all army reserve and national guard also get enlisted bonus, while other branch mostly, airforce probablt has the least amound of bonus.. becaud their are the most overmmaned now, if u had a college degree 4 year into enlisted u get alot of benefit at first such as i think is 10,000 bonus at all branch and possible pay back u college loans,.

The bonus you get is not so much dependent on which service you join, but how valuable the job you're enlisting for is to that service. For example, typically, a nuclear engineer job will get you more bonus money than enlisting as a cook.
In my experience, the Army offers the highest enlistment bonuses, with first-time enlistment bonuses capped at $20,000 while re-enlistment bonuses can be as high as $45,000 (once again, depending on your job).

Depends on need. Right now, the Army & USMC need people. the AF and NAvy not really. It also depends on the specialty. There is a more critical need for arabic translators and Nuclear power school people in the Navy than, band drummers.
