Your question could further be generalized as most educated 30+ year olds spend -less- time in the bars/clubs than they used to. I have found that social organizations (such as professional associations, community beautification groups, and excercise clubs) tend to provide that same type of interaction without the smoke-filled, music-thumping, alcohol-laden environments that used to be the places to be in your 20's.

(Not to say that those aren't great places to go and have fun with friends, but lower your expectations to the "meat market" level)
