But Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has said a wall running the length of a border would cost too much. A 2,000 mile state-of-the-art border fence has been estimated to cost between four and eight billion dollars. Costs for a wall that would run the entire length of the border might be as low as $851 million for a standard 10-foot prison chain link fence topped by razor wire. For another $362 million, the fence could be electrified. A larger 12-foot tall, two-foot-thick concrete wall painted on both sides would run about $2 billion. Initially it was estimated that the San Diego fence would cost $14 million -- about $1 million a mile. The first 11 miles of the fence eventually cost $42 million -- $3.8 million per mile, and the last 3.5 miles may cost even more since they cover more difficult terrain. An additional $35 million to complete the final 3.5 miles was approved in 2005 by the Department of Homeland Security -- $10 million per mile.

The Berlin Wall part 2, a better solution would be to lift economic sanctions on Mexico and help it become a better country to live in. Despite what you may think, America can help strengthen Mexico's economy. Then the citizens of Mexico would not have to risk death and disease just to find a better life for their families. Most of them have no other options.
But as we all know, America is slowly becoming a 'military state' where our rights are being removed one at a time and in trade we receive more security. "Punch first, ask questions...later, then change the subject." It's not about fixing problems, persecution and punishment are how we deal with everything now.

sure, and not in any respect ideas the borderland neigh-sayers. i comprehend alot of human beings will be irked on the fence. first of all, there are alot of human beings which will go the "highway" in places to do flea market determining to purchase. they arrive from Mexico into the U. S. to snatch something someone bought quite lower priced at a storage sale, and grew to change right into a income by technique of utilising itr down there. maximum Mexicans receives "day" passes to go and save. No import, export or revenues tax is paid on those products, and larger-over this income is not in any respect suggested. There are some those who whinge that is going to run by their abode. I say provide their abode to the Mexican authorities then, and enable them be their challenge. That way, we do not want to pay them something to flow.

It will be a three teired chainlink fence with razor wire (36 inches angled towards Mexico) on the tops of each fence. The chain links will be reinforced, three times thicker than average chain link (the new fence will be constructed of chain link a half an inch thick, making use of wire cutters virtually impossible)

I hope it IS the great wall of the USA - now when are we going to pass legislation to fence the other 1300 miles? Or at least put our regular military on the border with live bullets & the order to shoot on sight...no exceptions!

I am just glad to see our elected officials trying to do something tangible and positive to stop the flow of illegal immigrants from our porous southern border.

We don't need a wall, we need LAWS

We HAVE LAWS....people aren't obeying them and don't think they have to. There's more breaking the law than there are people to catch them....it's unfortunate but it's an extreem we're forced to do.
