Yes. Then through Windows Updates, you will get the Genuine Validation again and again.
So if you install Windows and wonder... get the updates right away to see if your version is BOGUS. The license says that you can use it to restore your computer, so go ahead.
There are quite a few tips about activation and the Genuine Validation at the Microsoft website. This is much more valuable then trying to call them. Visit http://www.microsoft.com and use the search feature.

When activating it by phone, they will just request the phone code, then they will ask you how many computers is this copy installed on. I have reinstalled my copy on my own computer about 10 times now so I have to ring microsoft everytime I want to activate it.
Yes, they are pretty adamant about the whole copyright law.
If that copy is one which is on a LOT of computers, then you may want to rethink giving them a call.
I have my purchased copy of XP Pro on three machines in my home and have called them.
They asked how many machines I had the copy on and answered - "1 and I need to reinstall everything because of viruses and spyware".
She then gave me a code which I typed into the activation screen and away we go.
No problems.

You will need to enter the code on the CD or on the packaging. They will then check this, a code will then be given to you to enter on your PC. After entering this code and clicking change code the PC will be ready.
I did this on Monday with a copy of XP Pro.

the better question is : is the copy of windows on your system legal. if so, you don't have a problem, if it is NOT then you don't hafe a hope in hels chance of Microsoft activating it.
your only hope is but a lagit copy.

Well, yes, they are going to check if that particular copy has been registered. It is automated and if the numbers show it has been registered, you will talk to a live operator and tell him/her that you have a new hard drive and need to re register it.

I don't see why not... they wouldn't activate a computer without checking to see if it's valid first.
