usually when termminating a telephone line, you have your color code first pair is white/blue & Blue/white. you will need to terminate that to 4&5 on your jack/insert. if you want it to be on the second line 3&6.

Some telephone lines are polarity sensitve so if it doesn't work try reversing the pair. Also in the old houses there maybe still some old JK wire Red Green is the first pair and yellow black is the second pair.

If you are terminating a data line i know we use 568B as a standard out here. You can look up EIA/TIA standards and it should spread some light for you.
