Why in the world would you want to maime a dog? To crop at all is senseless but to do it yourself? What will you do when the bleeding won't stop or infection sets in? Sheesh!

Tail docking and ear cropping are no longer required for most of the dog kennel clubs around as it is finally being perceived as inhumane procedures that don't benefit the dog at all. I wouldn't do it... your dog will be much happier this way.
But if you insist, go to the vet and let the trained professionals handle this. At least they will be able to manage the PAIN involved for your dog for this process, as well as put him under during the procedure, which you can't do. Do you have any idea how traumatizing it would be to do this to a dog without any pain management during the procedure?

Cropping a dogs ears at home is a felony. You can get up to 5 years in prison and a $5000 fine.. I'm assuming that your wanting to crop them so you can fight the dog? That can get you another 5 years in prison. You also risk being killed by the dog while you are cropping them

In order to do this ,the dog must be sedated, and if you have no previous knowledge on this precedure, please don't attempt.Take your dog to a vet to have this done, because if you do it yourself, this would be cruel and inhumane treatment. On the other hand, ask yourself the question"How would you like someone to crop your ears without any sedation",I'm sure your answer would be "NO WAY",Most vets don't charge an arm and a leg to do this, and it would be better for you and the pet for a Vet to do.

Don't.
It's painful, traumatizing to the dog, and you won't get the 'effect' you are looking for.
Cropping should only be done by a veterinarian, who has the proper training, meds, sutures, and other necessities to keep infections at bay.
If you are that cheap that you want to save a buck on your dog's ears...I suggest you don't crop them. That will save you, and your dog a lot.

Oh my God, you DON'T!
It's very painful for the dog and it should be under antistatic when it's done to lessen it.
Not to mention the fact that you could KILL your dog because of the risk of it bleeding to death.
And you're taking a HUGE risk of infection afterward.
Gees, if you have to do that to the poor animal, at least get it done by a professional! At least if something goes wrong they'll know how to handle it.

Sorry to say this friend but yours is known in some circles as the "Pit Bull Mentality". One who wants a Pit Bull because of their fierce reputation to impress their friends and spend little money doing it. Do your dog a favor and give it to someone who knows about these dogs and wont try to save a buck at the dogs expense. To do it yourself will be painful and possible ruin a good dog do to a sloppy job, infections or possibly death to the pup.

You don't. Face it, when you have a dog, sometimes there are just somethings you can't pinch pennies with and do it yourself.
Leave the ears alone or shuck out the bucks to have it done humanely.

Cropping for any dog is very painful, selfish and just plain cruel. And to do it yourself is just creepy! If you are that selfish and must do it anyway, take the poor dog to the vet!

Don't do it yourself!!! That's so wrong on so many levels!! And you shouldn't even be cropping your dogs ears unless it is for medical reasons.
