Indiana state jobs are a pain, too. I tried to get on at the state. I've given up. They don't pay that well anyway!

It only took me two weeks to get a job with the IDOC. Then again, that was a long time ago and I had a specialty they were looking for.

If you are set on one geographical area or one specific institution, it's going to take you much longer than if you're willing to re-locate. If you are willing to re-locate, just keep at the individual personnel departments of all the institutions and make it clear that you are willing to move. Going through the main, state office is worthless.

And, don't assume it's political. While there is a very high turnover for first year employees, those that make it past that year tend to stay a very long time.

That's state jobs for you. I applied for mine, they called me for an interview after one year, and hired me four months after my second interview.

Not in corrections, of course, but subject to the same time drags

Don't give up. Good jobs are hard to come by. I would keep in touch with them, to let them know of your keen interest. Good luck.
