I am an insomniac. The deep breathing theraphy that i was practising all this while doesn't seem to work anymore to keep my mind quiet. I hav been having torturous and sleepless night for the whole week now. Please help me. Give some suggestion on how to keep the mind quiet.
(Don't talk about taking yoga or meditation, i hav no money for such expensive treatment)

Meditation is the best solution for your problem.

Remember "Meditation' is not a 'treatment'. Like the body needing physical ecercises the mind also needs exercises. Meditation is the exercise that you need.

You need only a silent place and a chair.

After sitting down close your eyes and try to concentrate on your breath. Try to concentrate on act of your 'in breath' and the 'out breath'. You will find that other thoughts come in and interrupt your concentration. This is natural. When such a thought comes in just try to follow it in your mind. You will find that it has gone nowhere and it has 'GOT KILLED'.

You must be like a Manager of a hotel trying to find out what is happening there and observes the customers coming in without getting attached to them.

So when you are trying to sleep also lye down on your bed and try to concentrate on your breath - when those thoughts come follow them. You will find that you have fallen asleep effortlessly.

It would be also better if you could do some physical exercises also before going to bed - this will assist the sleeping effort.

You seem to be a victim of immense worry.
My dear, to give up worry is the best solution. Worry will kill you alive.
You seem to be unemployed, if so try to do anything you can and keep your mind busy and your body busy in hard work. When you will eat at night you will feel good sleep. So hard work is second solution.
To sing Gods' songs first and after a few days' study start taking His name continuously, first while on bed till you sleep and afterwards try all the time. This will root out your all worries.
Meditation is the best solution and needs no money at all!
While doing deep breathing concentrate your mind on the air going in and out and feel its' warmth. After this study you will start concentrating your mind on any subject. Then try to make it thoughtless - means just watch the thoughts appearing and passing away, don't give reaction. This will lead to meditation.

cut back on TV....it clutters your mind and when you are trying to sleep your subconscious goes and goes and goes.
Get some exercise so that your body is really tired at bedtime.
Do not drink anything with caffeine in it.
Do not eat a lot of chocolate.
Do not eat within 4 hours of going to bed.
Make things right with people as much as you can and then forget the rest.
When you get ready to go to bed turn on a soft light, read a book,
turn on a white noise (small fan). When you get sleepy keep the fan on, turn off the light. Visualize a relaxing place like the beach. Let the breeze (fan) blow over you and hear the waves!

Set out a block of time day-to-day wherein you don't have got to do some thing. Use that point to do whatever a laugh or significant; learn, watch a film, play an device, activity, or paintings on a passion of yours. Let this be a time wherein you'll assurance you're going to no longer have got to feel approximately some thing else however having fun with your self.

meditation isn't expensive,, it's simply playing some quiet music or no music at all,, turning down the lights or being in the dark with candles,, and finding a comfortable position, some lay down,, some sit,, some do a combo,, then you simply start to relax your body one section at a time,, I usually start with my head,,, I focus on the muscles of my face,, tighting them ,, then letting them fall loose,, letting the tention and negitive engery flow down my body,, I picture it in my mind as a river flowing out of my body our my feet,, I have hear others picturing it as bubbles or balloons,, taking the stress nad tention and floating it up and out.
then you move to your neck and shoulders,, then your arms,, and just move down each section of major muscles. once you are done you just slowly bring your self back to the now,, and should be very relaxed and able to sleep.

Also,, making sure you don't watch TV right before trying to sleep, avoid caffine, chocolate,, any stimilant like 2 hours before sleep, keep your bedroom free of things like a TV or work things,, it should be a santuary free from everyday stressors.

don't exercise right before bed,, also something else I have tried is keeping a pen and paper near my bed so when I can't clear my mind I write down the things I am worrying about , with the promise to my self that I will work through them in the morning. it helps some.

Good luck,,

I used to have very bad insomnia, now I rarely have the problem. What works for me is to write down everything tha tis bothering before bed, and then make a plan to do it tommarow, I dont let things that bother me keep me up. I lay on my pillow and think happy thoughts that make me feel relaxed. Believe it or not it is very important to make sure you only do relaxing things in your bedroom, or use it only to sleep. IF you are stressed in your bedroom or work in your bedroom it will be harder to disassocaiate yourself from those things that stress you out when you go to bed, so i found that just using my bedroom for sleeping and reading made a huge difference in my being able to go to sleep at night.

Meditation in particular is not expensive. You can just sit quietly, close your eyes and focus on your breathing.

Have you tried ideas like drinking warm milk, having a warm shower, winding down before you go to bed?

Chamomile tea will put you to sleep. Or Ambien or Lunesta and will not leave you with that hangover feeling of regular sleeping pills. Believe it or not I started counting sheep and it really works. I put them in different settings, like jumping off a roof or running through traffic. Writing all your thoughts of the day or next day will work to clear your mind.

You need to distress. Take breaks from whatever you do, sit somewhere refreshing, close your eyes, take deep breaths. Get plenty of sleep and eat foods rich in vit E, zinc and essential fatty acids.

You can pray for sleep, but praying doesn't always work immediately. God's a busy busy man. I would try to write. Write down what's on your mind that's keeping you awake. I've found that writing can be good therapy. Good luck!
