Just move over and let them pass when it's safe to do so.

But watch out for the occasional moron who will whip out to pass on the wrong side as soon as he can squeeze through.

Slamming on the brakes is just about the DUMBEST thing that you can do. And if it can be substantiated that you did that YOU would be responsible for the resulting accident.

Contrary to the widely held mis-conception, the vehicle in the rear is NOT always at fault. The facts stand on their own and slamming the brakes on a tailgater can make YOU liable for any resulting accident ESPECIALLY if an innocent third party is involved. At highway speeds these can often lead to fatalities and that would be on YOU if you caused it.

When I'm driving my old truck I wait until no one's coming in the other lane, then look for the slightest thing I could use as an excuse for slamming on the brakes. Let me tell you, that dropdown hitch really tears up the front end of a car.

Leave plenty of room between you and the car in front of you. This way if you have to make a stop, you are not slamming on your brakes, and the tailgater wont slam into you. You can not control the bad habits of other drivers, but you can control your driving.

yes, it can be annoying. The safest thing to do is to pull over and let them pass. I know...i know...they ARE idiots, but you don't want to get into an accident because of one of them. The whole causing an accident thing is OK, but they might not be insured, they might drive off or they, or you, might be killed. It takes surprisingly little.
Just let them pass and carry on your journey. One day you will drive along and see them parked up a lamp post or in a field.
If you want, take a note of the vehicle registration and report the incident to the police. It is better if they are slap doing it to someone else. Take a note of the number of that vehicle too, it will make a better case against the tailgater in court.
Try to keep the road rage at bay, its not worth the hassle

slow down they will go around - I like the sipping coffee method. You weight till they take a drink of coffee and hit the brake quick fast and get right off it fast.... they spill coffee and forget about you and tailgating....

seriously jsut let them go buy move to the right lane or the right side of the road or jsut ignore them. They are in the worng every time EXCEPT if you are in the left lane blocking them, if there are cars infront of you then you are fine. If you block someone in the left lane you deserve to be in a ditch shinny side down!

If your driving slower than the flow of traffic, speed up!

Otherwise, drive slightly slower than they guy in front, they'll pass.

You shouldn't try it on a two-lane two-way road and slow down, don't stop!

If your in the fast lane, put your turn signal own, get in the slow lane until the tail gaiter passes.

Smoke grenade. Just attach it to your back bumper and run a pull string from the trigger to the drivers seat. My favorite is red smoke. Non lethal and lots of fun. Watch them back off when the visibility is two feet in a red fog.

a good way to get rid of tail-gaters would be to tap your brakes intermittently.

a fun one is to keep foot on clutch and put in reverse so your reverse lights come on. they back off pretty quick. dont take your foot off the clutch while doing this though - not a good idea as not good for your engine - or gear box.
