I have a friend that wants to know if he can get more than one "disability grant". I didn't even know such things existed, but he says they do.

He has three seperate disabilities:

(1. Learning disability 2. Hearing 3. Vision)

He is looking for any grant to help with college, even if it only cuts off a few hundred.

Thanks!

The Government has created a portal to help individuals who need benefits because of life events including disabilities.

Visit http://www.govbenefits.gov

Use the drop down button
DO YOU NEED BENEFITS BECAUSE OF A LIFE EVENT?
Choose the life situation best applicable to you and then see if you qualify for the available government assistance.

And no - your friend cannot get grants because he's got 3 disabilities. He will be considered as "disabled" no matter if he's got 1 or 20 disabilities.

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs

Tell your "friend" that if he kills himself her will get $250 from S.S. It will help the economy too. It will leave money around for people who are willing to "work" for it.

have him check out vocational rehab (if they have it there). It pays for several things. I have health problems. It pays for my tuition, books, fees, and glasses.
