Doesn't that seem a contradiction? Create a being with great desire and imagination to try new things but then punish them for acting out their desires?

hahaha im sorry but you musnt have much of an understanding on what "being meek and on the straight and narrow" actually means.... its got nothing to do with "great imaginations"... at all... hahaha.

meekness is simply strength in reserve. like if two cars are at a set of lights, and there is this hot race car minding its own business, and a little 2001 VW pulls up next to it and starts revving... the sports car could cream that little thing, but he chooses not to. just lets the little car have its glory, and sits there smiling, shaking his head, thinking on more important things. hahahaha.
meekness is awesome. and actually, it leaves more room to BE creative and imaginitive, it gives you more time to think on those things which are useful.

the straight and narrow? thats just a safe road that is harder than the worlds way, but well worth it. its challenging but rewarding. it has nothing to do with not being able to be imaginative and try new things. it just prohibits doing things that will hurt us or be bad for us as an end result. the wages of sin is death. not always litteral... but it has consequenses.

the straight and narrow rox.

My personal opinion is that the contradiction lies in your terms.
What does meek mean to you? to me it means living in a non boastful, non prideful way.
What does walking the straight and narrow mean to you? To me it means one thing, keeping my eyes focused on Christ.
God has never punished me for using the brain He gave me. I have great passion for my life and I have a wildly creative imagination. But I do not use those gifts to fulfill every single lustful thought that pops in to my head because I also have self control. Having great desire and imagination does not necessarily mean fulfilling the desires of the flesh. My flesh is too fickle to be a guide in my decision making process.
I use my desire and imagination for good: teaching, writing, enjoying my life, having fun with my friends and family, joking, kidding around, entertaining, so on and so forth.
Possessing those abilities does not mean you have to follow any thought that pops in your head.
The contradiction is in your lack of understanding of the full meaning of the terms you were using.

Its not the creative thinking that God warns against. Its the acting of desires without much thought.

Only animals live like that...and the expression of creative thinking isnt acting on just desire..theres a lot of constructive thought put into things like art.

However, if by creative thinking you refer to creatively creating ways to indulge in sex more often than you should then yeah you pretty much live like an animal and need to tone it down. Just an example.

Peace out

There does not have to be a conflict between being imaginative and being holy.

Listen to Miles Davis' CD "Kind of Blue", which is a very imaginative CD of great Jazz music.

Is Miles Davis and his fellow musicians doing anything against the will of God in this CD?
No.

Is this music CD very imaginative?
Yes.

Great imaginations are given not to be used with animal desires, but with the rational sense of the human species.
We can dream and build the castle for our sweetheart on the moon, but we cannot kill the person there at our bestial anger.

Yes, we have wonderful imaginations, which should be put into the service of God. There is nothing contradictory about that. We must merely overcome our sinful nature. Imagination. like everything else, can be used for good or ill. Why would you want to misuse such a gift?

figure of speech my friend.
That's why God gave us great imagination to help us find the right straight narrow path. there are so many straight path out here that its a matter of choice and the use of you're brain on what will happen if you choose this and that path.

What cure? Many have died from cancer regardless of chemotherapy. And Satan can do no more than God allows him to. All is of God. Answers will come to us when we are in full knowledge of God. This life is a learning experience that will culminate into knowing God fully. But only in the next life.

God gave us many gifts and all are for proper use and not misuse,
freedom to choose is one that is often abused and misunderstood, just because we are free to choose does not mean a license to do anything we want.
if we dont place some control on our desires then it becomes a free for all mentality, a man desires to commit rape, does that mean that he can, in acting out his desires a pervert wants to interfere with a child, need I say more?
uncontrolled desires have caused great harm and hurt, so use your gifts but please dont complain because there is an unacceptable limit that all of us must not go beyond.

It is all a test to see just how faithful you can be to God. If i loaned you my car and told you it could go really fast and the handling was great but i didn't want you to drive fast or turn sharp could i trust you? That is what God is getting at. I am not saying that it is bad to use your imagination i am saying just be careful how you use it. Peace to you.
