Im in search of distant relatives and family history, i know very little at this state. i only know my grandfather and no further back than that. help me if you can...

Hey Pettals,
First is a URL search string for "Whittys family". That produces more than 10 pages of web sites with Whitty(s) (second is without the 's')
Then GENFORUM for Whitty, produces lots of sites also. Family Search by LDS show about 238 direct hits, these are possible ancestors from all over the world. Select the Advanced Search, type Whitty in the last name, and EXACT MATCH, then the Search button.
The Ellis Island site has 204 matches to Whitty, you have to register to see them, but it is free. This should get you started.

the mormon church has amazing archives. my sister did this for 20 plus years,she was able to back to the 1600's in some cases.
many of the web sites cost some money but are well worth it.you can find message boards using the last name and there is cindi's list to genealogy sites on the web. also try the ellis island site good luck

You'll need to get a certicate of his birth and that will tell you his parents names.These cost around £7 each in the uk.
